We recently connected with Johnnie Sanchez Event Planner & Designer and have shared our conversation below.
Johnnie Sanchez , appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with education – we’d love to hear your thoughts about how we can better prepare students for a more fulfilling life and career
Children are extremely important to me. I’m a big supporter of Kate’s Club in Atlanta. Kate’s Club is a community for children and teens, their families, and young adults experiencing the death of someone close to them. This is close to my heart because both of my parents opposite sex parent died when they were young. I think the government needs to fund schools basic needs – period. I also think society would be expereience a decrease in depression and mental health issues if we ensured that our children were given access to higher emotional wellness tools. This includes learning about emotions, affect regulation, breathing exercises, receiving healthy meals, less homework, etc.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
A President at a top PR firm in Atlanta recommended me for a event contractor position at Georgia Aquarium. I totally fell in love with it and the rest is history! My firm offers event planning and design services to everyone from busy brides who don’t have 300-400 hours to plan a wedding, to corporations who need to execute a 1000 person employee appreciation event, to non-profits who are planning weekend long fundraising events with 4000 in attendance. Planning events can be hell on earth if you don’t know what you’re doing, and worse if you don’t have the time. My clients often do not have the time to plan an event of their size. They’re smart and know that they don’t know what they don’t know and they want a leader they can trust to guide them to success. They have thought about this event for a long time, and need a respected confidant that they can trust. Our clients are overwhelmed with the hundreds of decisions to make, etiquette protocol, family/employee dynamics, how much it should cost, and more. We pride ourselves on being creative advocates that get to know every client and that have their best interest in mind at all times. Ultimately, we treat each event as if it were our own.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
I think the most effective strategy for growing clientele is taking care of your current clientele. Towards the end of planning an event, or after an event, I ask my clients to write me testimonials online in addition to letting me know if they can think of anyone who also may need our services in the future.

Any advice for managing a team?
I’m so tired of seeing restaurants and shoppes with “low staff” signs. I’ve never had serious employee problems or staffing issues, which I think is highly correlated to the fact that my company pays very well. I expect a lot and the very best for my clients. If a business wants to be the best they have to employ the best.
