We were lucky to catch up with Johni Demeatri recently and have shared our conversation below.
Johni, appreciate you joining us today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
I started as singer. I’m still a singer but my dreams grew a lot bigger as I started my music journey. It’s no secret that the music industry can be cutthroat. First hand experience gave me the drive needed to prepare myself as an independent artist. You often hear stories of how artists were lied to and/or manipulated out of what they earned from their hard work. I’ve seen countless interviews and documentaries of some of Hollywoods biggest stars explain what they had to overcome as beginners and that motivated me to start my own music and publishing company independently. I took this route because I learned that copyrights/ownership is one of the biggest challenges of the music business. I knew that by taking the steps to become the CEO of my own company that I would put myself in position to become more than just an artist that could be taken advantage of. That spirit lead me into shopping around for proper representation. On that path I found a manager that introduced me to the beginning steps of self sufficiency.

Johni, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a singer/songwriter most known for my soulful sound. As cliche as this answer has become for singers and musicians, I have to be honest and say that my humble beginnings started in the church. I sang alto in my church choir from childhood to my young adulthood. That is how I adopted the alias Queen of the Ghetto Gospel because of how much the roots of my upbringing in the church carried over into my creation of R&B music. It has since then become the namesake of my very first licensed business and publishing company, Ghetto Gospel Ent. Also, last year my leading single, Energy, from my second EP, Final Notice was featured on MTV Jams! It was definitely one of the best moments of my career thus far and had opened so many more doors for me. Finally I know that what sets me apart from most people is purpose. I don’t make career choices for money and fame only. I do it to live out God’s purpose for my life. I use my gift as a blessing to his people even in R&B music. I do it on purpose for purpose!

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
God given talent! I’ve become well known in my city for being a gifted singer. In the fall of 2017, I bursted on the music scene with 3 original songs and from countless features were born with other artists. After making my debut, I received a plethora of requests from people that loved my sound. The thought of how receptive people are to my art really touches my heart. All I can do is thank God for my gift and success.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
My presence in social grew from making cover videos. Strategically and consistently, I post simple snippet videos of me showcasing my talent to my friends and supporters. I sing popular songs that are known and loved by most which usually helps my videos to be shared amongst my friend’s friends and their new feeds.
