We were lucky to catch up with Johnette Wiggins recently and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, Johnette thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you share a story with us from back when you were an intern or apprentice? Maybe it’s a story that illustrates an important lesson you learned or maybe it’s a just a story that makes you laugh (or cry)? Looking back at internships and apprenticeships can be interesting, because there is so much variety in people’s experiences – and often those experiences inform our own leadership style.

My story is

Back in 2018 when I started Grooming School through Animal Behavior College,after my book work portion was completed,My Grooming Program Mentor sent over my Internship information on where I’ll be completing my hours that’s needed for graduation.

What started out as pure excitement soon turnt into frustration because I waited for this moment only for someone to lie on me cause they didn’t want me in their facility. I “Experience” Racial behavior. The Owner said she couldn’t help me when I called to set up my appointment to get started. The Owner email my Grooming Mentor stating I never showed up. Luckily the voice-mail that was left on my end saved me. I reported everything over on my end.
I say all of this to say

I was only Delayed for a better path to be out on my own! I’m Grateful for my Trails and Tribulations along the way.
They make me stronger.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?

My name is Johnette Wiggins, this is my story.

Born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida, grew up on the east side of town, where my love for dogs started. The youngest of 6 siblings (only one with a unique passion for dogs). As a child, the daily routine was school then straight home with the dogs.

At the tender age of 8 years old, my dad betted me $20 bucks little old me couldn’t make the two Rottweilers which both were BIG GUARD DOGS obey my commands. He lost his money and never made another bet with me again.

At that moment, I knew Dog Training was my gift. Pit Bulls, German Shepherds &Rottweilers are the breeds I grew up on and trained. Years after working stressful jobs, not being happy, and living paycheck to paycheck, I wanted better in life not just for myself, but for my family as well.

The power of Prayer is real. My dream was the military but God’s vision was me being my own boss. In 2017, my dad gave me his bully to train because he knew his daughter was the truth. I began the certification process to become a Certified Dog Trainer.

Although I was already knowledgeable in certain breeds, in order to understand all breeds dug deeper into education. 2018, I enrolled in grooming school at Animal Behavior College where I earned my diploma in Professional Dog Grooming. Since then, I’ve worked hard to further my knowledge of the canine world.

Looking back,It was rough especially after finishing up the bookwork portion in school them to have my externship delayed 4 months due to me experiencing some issues with the salon owner.

Four years for Netta Furry Babies being in business,this past May made it 2 years Nettafurrybabies been in our shop.Once the quality of my grooming skills sharpened, word of mouth brought in continuous clientele in which made NettaFurryBabies a top dog service provider in the City of Jacksonville.
