We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Johna Germany a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Johna, appreciate you joining us today. We’re complete cheeseballs and so we love asking folks to share the most heartwarming moment from their career – do you have a touching moment you can share with us?
Part of the mission of Seven Cycle is giving all children a form of fitness to plug into. Not all kids have the ability or confidence for team sports or high impact activities. Cycling gives kids the ability to be successful in the first steps of their lifelong fitness journey. It has been an absolute joy to watch our riders grow confident in their ability to ride to the rhythm and feel good in their own bodies as they move through the class. It has been especially cool to watch some of our riders that have special needs thrive and become independent. One of our riders this season through a partnership with a local elementary cross country team went from one-on-one support while on the bike and runs to finishing the season requesting to be allow to ride and run on her own, without special instruction or assistance. It was definitely one of those moments that you realize what you are doing matters and is making a difference in kids life’s. Watching her progress through the season and building confidence through cycling is a feeling that will forever be a Seven Cycle highlight!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I was born with a soccer ball at my feet. Being active was just nature for me. I played soccer all through my upbringing. During a successful division 1 college soccer career, I quickly found my passion for working with kids through sports and fitness and accumulated a range of experience while coaching soccer across the country as well as personal training and coaching abroad.
After a life on the field and in the gym, I entered the classroom with a masters in education to impact kids on a different level. Throughout my experience as a teacher in three countries, I picked up cycling as a means of self care, but through long rides and good beats, Seven Cycle was born.
Seven Cycle has created a path for children to feel empowered and build healthy habits from a young age. Seven Cycle is a mobile rhythm based cycling studio for kids. With our bikes, created just for kids, and some good beats we create a fun fitness experience!
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The community culture we create within Seven is a top priority. When you come to a Seven Cycle class, you feel like family. Instructors know you by name and want to hear about your day, how school was, what songs you want to ride to, etc. Being a mobile company, we count a lot on other businesses to partner with us to host weekly classes. When we are looking at potential partnerships, we seek out those that have the same culture we are cultivating ourselves. It creates a great environment for kids to feel comfortable and confident in.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
What is so cool about Seven Cycle, is it giving kids a chance to partake in an activity that has never been available to them. Trying to explain to a family that Seven has cycling classes for kids, is not always easy, and understandably so, there has never been anything like it. Kids may grow up watching adults on a spin bike, but never have they had the chance to ride on a spin bike that was tailor to them! Now they do! When a kid realizes they are able to do the same style workout as their parents, grandparents, older siblings, etc…it’s empowering. It gives a child a sense of pride and excitement that you can literally see in how they carry themselves.
