We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful John Wroblewski. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with John below.
John, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you walk us through some of the key steps that allowed you move beyond an idea and actually launch?
I always had an interest in sports, comic cons and other such pop culture events. I attended many events for years and started a blog highlighting my celebrity encounters and special moments. Still it was all just a hobby. I’m 2004, Global Traveler magazine debuted and I joined as an online writer, as well as filling other roles. Armed with a bigger platform, I started approaching event organizers about media passes and additional access.
One of my first big successes was gaining a media pass from the Los Angeles Dodgers. I traveled to LA and interviewed former Major League Baseball player Rick Monday, who famously saved the American flag from an attempted burning on field years ago. That interview was played on The Sporting News radio and won a Globility award from GT.
From there I honed my interviewing skills at local sporting events, independent wrestling shows and more. Each interview and article added to my credibility and helped me move to more and bigger events.
I have covered the World Series and Stanley Cup in Chicago. I have been on 21 MLB fields. I have written for several other sites, but my main focus is always Global Traveler.

John, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I started writing in grade school and continued through college, writing for school newspapers and other magazines. After college, I wrote feature articles for a community newspaper in Chicago. With the growth of the Internet, I shifted a bit to coverage to attract viewers and gain pageviews for my writing clients.
I have made a lot of contacts from several fields. Covering a wide array of topics, I bring a diverse audience.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I have been an admirer of musician Suzi Quatro for decades. I pursued her for an interview for a few years. Recently, I started a Talking Travel interview series on Global Traveler and thought it would be the perfect platform. I proposed it to her team and finally landed that interview, which became the debut interview of Talking Travel.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal is twofold, but it is very simple. I want to interview and/or write about people and things I enjoy. I will not cover anything that I don’t feel is appropriate. I also want to continue providing interesting content for Global Traveler, Johngy’s Beat (my original, still active blog) and other sites for which I freelance.
