Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to John Sundara. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
John, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
Growing up, I moved constantly— five elementary schools, three middle schools, bouncing between Seattle, WA, and Fresno, CA. Every time I settled in, I had to start over—new friends, new environments, new challenges. Over time, I began to hate change. I craved stability, so I made my mom promise that I could stay in the same high school for all four years. For the first time, I had a sense of consistency—I built lasting friendships, had my go-to food spots, and felt the comfort of familiarity.
After graduating, my passion for photography and assistant directing music videos grew alongside my business partner, Corey. We built a name for ourselves, landing bookings and making real progress. Then, Corey brought up an idea of moving to Los Angeles to chase our artistry full-time. My immediate answer was no. The thought of starting over again, leaving everything I had built, and taking a financial risk was overwhelming. I was happy
being comfortable.
But as years passed, I had deep conversations with myself about what I truly wanted. I realized that growth doesn’t happen in comfort zones. If I didn’t take the leap, I would always wonder, “what if?” So, after careful preparation, I took the risk and moved to LA in the fall of 2019.
That decision changed my life. Within my first few years, I was blessed with incredible opportunities—working with agency models, small brands, and well-known artists. I gained confidence in my craft and knew I was exactly where I needed to be. In 2023, I pushed myself further and ventured into videography, manifesting my first major gig at Sabaidee Fest Music Festival. My work resonated deeply within the Southeast Asian community, giving our voices a platform to shine. I finally saw financial growth and true recognition for my work.
In 2024, I took another leap—I launched my own business, Jsundara Media LLC. From that moment on, everything changed.
Looking back, if I had let fear hold me back in 2019, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I would have never thought the person who once dreaded change now embraces it. Taking risks isn’t easy, but the greatest rewards come from pushing past fear. If you’re on the edge of a big decision, wondering if you should take that leap—do it. You’ll never know what’s waiting for you on the other side unless you try.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Through Jsundara Media LLC, I offer music festival recaps, music videos, food highlights, corporate/private event coverage, and photography sessions with models, music artists, and brands. I solve the challenge of making moments last—ensuring that my clients not only have footage but a captivating visual experience that reflects their brand, event, or artistry.
What sets me apart is my ability to blend artistry with professionalism, staying ahead of industry trends while creating content that resonates emotionally. My work isn’t just about documenting events; it’s about bringing them to life in a way that feels authentic, immersive, and impactful.
I take pride in giving a platform to Southeast Asian culture through my work, showcasing the richness and energy of our communities in a way that hasn’t always been seen in mainstream media. Above all, I want potential clients and followers to know that when they work with me, they’re not just hiring a videographer or photographer—they’re partnering with someone who’s passionate about telling their story in the most powerful way possible.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist and creative is the ability to turn vision into reality—taking an idea and transforming it into something tangible that resonates with people. For me, it’s about capturing raw emotions and telling stories that might otherwise go unnoticed. Seeing how my work impacts others—whether it’s an artist who finally sees their music come to life visually, a brand that gains recognition through stunning visuals, or an event that’s preserved forever in cinematic detail—is what keeps me going.
Beyond that, the freedom to constantly evolve and push creative boundaries is incredibly fulfilling. Every project is a chance to experiment, grow, and refine my craft. And knowing that my work gives a platform to underrepresented communities, especially Southeast Asian culture, makes it all the more meaningful. At the end of the day, being a creative isn’t just about producing content—it’s about making a memorable impact through storytelling.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Through every challenge—whether it was financial struggles, self-doubt, or the pressure of competing in LA’s creative scene—I stayed committed to my vision. Now, through Jsundara Media LLC, I’m not only making a name for myself but also giving a platform to Southeast Asian culture and pushing the boundaries of storytelling.
This journey has taught me that resilience isn’t just about pushing through obstacles—it’s about adapting, evolving, and trusting the process even when the path ahead isn’t clear. Every challenge has shaped me into the creative I am today!
