Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to John Schaub. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
John, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about how you’ve thought about whether to sign with an agent or manager?
The path to signing with an agent was pretty random, yet lucky. I was on set taking a photo as the younger version on Julia Roberts and Ethan Hawke’s son for the movie, Leave the World Behind, and my set sister said ‘I have a really good agent’. At that time, I was still pretty new to the industry and not sure if I was ready, but took a chance and gave her a call. We clicked immediately and ever since first signing, my agent Becky Randazzo at Kreativ Artists, has not only helped successfully guide my career but is still my #1 fan!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My first love of the arts began at 3 years old, when I would perform a singing and dancing Christmas show for my parents and brother. Seeing how I loved to perform, at 10 years old, my parents signed me up for an acting class at a nearby community theater. While enrolled in my first class, they staff encouraged me to audition for the musical ‘Frozen’. I was reluctant at first, but decided to give it a shot and was one of 40 people selected out of 200 to be part of the show. From there I auditioned and landed several roles in other musical productions, but had a keen interest in trying film. I have been trained by some of the industry’s finest, but most recently under the direction of accomplished film actor, Russ Russo, of Monmouth County Acting. Extensive training has opened up opportunities to becoming a featured face in several national commercials, as well as speaking parts in many short and feature films. Film is my true passion and I jump at the chance to become new and interesting characters and the thrill of seeing it all come together on the big screen.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One lesson I learned in this industry is that if it sounds too good to be true, it most likely is. While I still believe most people are good at heart, you do have to be careful . Do your research on people inviting you to do business with them and make sure they will represent you in a way that is honest and truthful.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I am fairly new to social media, but through it I have made so many friends and receiving so much helpful feedback. My advice would be to find Facebook groups that represent people like you, learn about people’s experiences, and ask questions. Dont be shy! If its something weighing on your mind, it most likely was for someone else too.
