Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to John Ramaine. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
John, appreciate you joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
My most meaningful project would be the one in which I am currently engaged. The process and effort of putting something like a feature film together has been a tremendous undertaking. The team behind it (Producers, Bob Johnston, Derek Michalak and 3090 Studios), have been supportive beyond my expectations. They believe in the script, the vision behind it and in me, its visionary and lead actor. It is now become their vision and everyone engaged with it has taken it as their own. The screenplay, THUS ALWAYS TO TYRANTS (based on the book written in 1907 titled, ‘The Escape and Suicide of John Wilkes Booth’ by Finis Bates). It touches the nerve of everyone who reads it. It is absorbing and provoking. Not a single person has said anything negative regarding the story’s structure or script’s execution. Director Bob Johnston has been invaluable filling the visual gaps that a script like this requires and demands. The entire team, those mentioned and unmentioned, have been crucial in getting the production to this point. Its like a military operation executed with exactitude.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started as an actor. It’s a noble and honorable profession. One that requires tenacity, fearlessness and an immediate realization that you’d better know you’re supposed to be doing this or you will waste a lot of time, years and money. Fortunately, I had nothing else going on, so I dove head first without a return ticket. It seems idealistic at first, but when you go through periods of hunger, lack of work and total obscurity, you tend to readjust your priorities. At least most normal people would. I never had those thoughts of giving up or giving in, even in the midst of these hardships. If I am proud of anything, it’s that I recognized the Grace afforded me to stay focused on a call that is beyond me and everyone associated with me.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Time. Everyone starts out with the same amount. But then choices kick in. There is always a timing to everything. Timing is the most important resource that is often neglected when someone is young and starting out. There is the issue of time invested in a project, or career or relationship. Choices need to be made, strategic choices. This takes time and without proper reasoning you can lose time. Timing is the source that makes things grow, mature and bloom to full measure. I certainly didn’t keep that in consideration when I first started out. You’re young and you think you can waste time because the perspective you have of time is built around your present circumstances. You’re hoping things change on a dime. But time takes no prisoners, it’s the only winner and if you’re not careful, you will have wasted much of it thinking you have plenty of it. But now, time is everything, it’s cherished and you’re cautious using any of it on anything unproductive. That includes spending it on projects or developing relationships. It’s a revelation really, and understood by those who want the fullness of a productive life.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Meeting other creatives along the way has been so satisfying. As mentioned before, Bob and Derek have been such a blessing to me. Their efforts have been life changing. There are also other actors, writers and directors, whom I cherish, that have been responsible for my growth. It’s wonderful to be at a place where I am considered for things, they write things for me and propose ideas that give meaning to me as a creative person. Their value in my life has made me who I am. The greatest reward other than the good work along the way, are the people you meet. They stay with you. You love them and you do anything for them.
