Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to John Parsons. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
John, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
Music has always been a part of my life. My father was a guitarist and songwriter which heavily influenced me in my own musical endeavors. My mother always had music playing in the home. I grew up with Fleetwood Mac, REM, Eric Johnson, Tom Petty and everything in between being played around me from a young age. My mother also introduced me to a lot of musicals like The Phantom of the Opera. My older brother introduced me to bands like Def Leppard and Guns N Roses. I think being surrounded by music is a great way to grow up! I am so grateful that my family is full of music lovers!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
IMMERSER is a dynamic, hard rock, solo project I created. The goal of the IMMERSER project is to bring meaning to a melody. As an artist I’m not afraid to explore the deepest parts of the subconscious. IMMERSER songs deal with some of life’s darkest places, yet there is always an energetic undercurrent of optimism, spirituality, and love running throughout. The result is a passionate mix of alternative, pop, grunge, and metal. IMMERSER is music that a listener can connect with and find deeper meaning in.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
With the evolution of social media and streaming services it’s definitely easier for independent artists to get their music out there, however I think in general people tend to devalue music now. It’s not appreciated in the same way as it used to be. I mean artists don’t make any money anymore. There’s really no way to make a living being a musician. I think the streaming platforms should be paying more to the artists per stream. Another way to support independent artists is to share them on social media. If you like a particular song or artist, make a point to share it!

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Being an artist allows me to process things in a healthy creative way. For example, if something upsets me, I can process those emotions by writing a song about it instead of acting on those emotions in a destructive manner. I think it’s healthy for society too, when people are dealing with hard times whatever it is they can put on a song that speaks to them. A song or an artist can help someone get through whatever it is that’s afflicting them in an indirect manner, so that’s pretty cool.
