We were lucky to catch up with John Mancilla recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, John thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. One of the toughest parts of scaling a business is maintaining quality as you grow. How have you managed to maintain quality? Any stories or advice?
Quality control and maintenance for a painting company is crucial if you want to have the right growth spur and manage the pains that come with growing. I have implemented various workflows to ensure the best outcome and that comes with a good quality measure or control This is something I wish I had implemented long before, and gotten in to the habit. I have implemented for our painting crew leads to use SOP ( or standards of operation) when starting a project. One of the issues that kept happening, is a customer would state something was damaged and we of course replaced- we could not prove otherwise. This happened here and there, and also issues where we didn’t have before or after pictures of a project. So we now implement- in our SOP that pictures before and after a project as well as documenting any damage that was there before we arrived. This has not only helped ensure the quality of our painting projects, but also has strengthened the communication on the projects.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I got into the painting business in the early mid 2000’s. I solely rebranded Jumbo Painting in 2014, since then may main focus and passion has been transforming spaces with paint. I recognized early on the impact of a fresh coat of paint, and the impact on a home or business. And this is not simply aesthetically, but in a creating and changing environments type of way.
At Jumbo Painting, we specialize in offering professional painting services for both residential and commercial clients in Tampa Bay. We offer services beyond just applying paint; we offer a comprehensive range including pressure washing, gutter cleaning, deck and concrete staining. We don’t just paint; we bring a level of attention to detail and we address common challenges our clients may have. From peeling paint, to stucco cracks and patches. We like to provide a hassle free experience.
What I’m most proud of is the positive impact we’ve made on countless homes and business in Tampa Bay. Seeing clients thrilled with the transformation, and referring their friends and family. We have relationships built and that’ is a beautiful thing. Our brand represents reliability, experience in the craftmanship, and genuine commitment to our clients satisfaction.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
Yes! this is a hard yes. Past clients are future clients. We want to harbor the relationship more than anything. One of the things I have done to keep in touch is a follow up thank you or how are you doing card. This can be a few months or years after the project has wrapped. Really saying hello we’re thinking of you.. anything we can do for you? This is a great way to keep the word of mouth going, being active and connecting with the clients.
Any advice for managing a team?
Advise would be to always foster good communication. Have open channels of communication and allow feedback. Give your team the trust and empowering them. Trust is fundamental to high moral. I like to encourage autonomy and give credit always for a job well done.
