Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to John Lyons. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, John thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
I learned may lessons in business from my mom. She taught me marketing knowledge and a strategic mindset that equipped me with essential skills for navigating the complexities of the corporate world. Her guidance extended beyond theoretical learning, often sharing practical insights from her own experiences as an entrepreneur. One particular instance stands out when she encouraged me to take calculated risks and embrace innovation, which significantly influenced my approach to problem-solving and decision-making in my career.
My dad taught me the importance of interpersonal skills. His innate ability to connect with others and foster meaningful relationships taught me the art of effective communication and empathy. I recall many occasions where his genuine interest in people and his ability to listen attentively not only enriched his personal connections but also taught me the value of understanding different perspectives.
Together, their strengths created a well-rounded foundation that has profoundly shaped my journey. Their teachings have not only guided my career choices but also instilled in me an understanding of business dynamics and interpersonal interactions, which continue to influence my professional approach and leadership style today.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My time at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) has been nothing short of transformative, especially pursuing my degree in music business. MTSU has not only provided me with a solid academic foundation but also numerous opportunities to enhance my career path. Whether through internships or participation in industry panels, MTSU has consistently supported my journey in the music industry.
One of the pivotal moments was at an MTSU career fair where I secured an internship with Romeo Entertainment Group (REG). At REG, I’ve had the privilege to delve deep into talent buying and content creation for festivals and concerts. This experience has been absolutely amazing, allowing me to apply the knowledge gained from both my coursework and mentors.
What I find most gratifying is the role of content creation in my journey. It has become my platform to showcase everything I’ve learned at MTSU and through my mentors. I’ve learned that details such as choosing specific colors and fonts can profoundly shape the image of an event, ultimately influencing consumer interest and attendance.
Through these experiences, MTSU has not just been a school but a launchpad for my career in the music industry. The combination of academic learning, practical experiences like internships, and the opportunity to network through events like career fairs has uniquely prepared me for the dynamic and competitive world of music business.
My journey alone is what I feel sets me apart from others. I have learned so much and have been taught to be a business person from my mom at a very young age. The time, effort and hunger is what sets me apart from others. When I work for a c0mpany, my end goal is to always make them brand aware. Understand that your business can and will beat out any competitor. I am always so excited to show what I can bring to the table and provide new insights on the industry!
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
For anyone on the creative side- Canva will be your best friend. I sadly did not find out what Canva was till last year. It has been a total game changer in the sense that the platform has so many tools to bring your vision to life.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Watching motivation videos on YouTube can really wake you up, in the fact that in order to achieve your dream your going to have to be the hardest working person in the room and you can’t ever give up. For me. watching a Mark Cuban interview about how he made his millions was very inspirational. Mark sacrificed many memories with friends and family in order to reach the level where he is now. He inspires me in the fact that he is always honest and loves taking risks.
His interview has impacted me in understanding to be that successful and wealthy it takes a very determined and hard working person to achieve that goal. That gives me the motivation to never quit and keep going.
