We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful John Kayacan. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with John below.
John , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
My love of photography first started off as a simple class I took in high school. Snapping photos of anything that caught my eye, as time went by, and my focus on photography became more obsessive, the pictures started to look better too. Over time it evolved into a purpose.

John , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is John Kayacan, I am a photographer from Los Angeles, I specialize in documentary and street photography. I also offer services as an event photographer as well. As far as street photography goes, I’ve always tried to be as indefinite as possible, With these photographs, I wanted to utilize the different dimensions of whatever environment I end up shooting in, analyzing its spaces, looking through the illuminated glimpses of the streets. By making photographs of the everyday scenes through an alternative approach, I set out to redefine and transform the art form that raised me. What emerged was a cinematic atmosphere of a city, seemingly caught in some moment in time. I wanted to challenge conventional perspectives on street photography as a whole, using bold colors and focused compositions offering the viewer a different perspective of everyday life.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist, is getting to implement my vision simply by using a camera and observing my surroundings.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Practice makes perfect, go out and shoot photos as much as possible, eventually your style will find you. Try to surround yourself with good quality work, studying and immersing yourself with pictures is the best way to ease the mind.
