We caught up with the brilliant and insightful John Guerrero a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, John thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?

I’m laying in bed next to my wife and I’m telling her I wanted a very unique name for the company. I wanted to be different and to stand out from the rest. At the same time I wanted the name to mean something, that way when I heard people say it I could smile with pride! We threw a few funny names out and eventually we came up with the name “EZ Installations.” The “E” represents our youngest son at the time “Ezra.” The “Z” represents our oldest son “Zachary.” The “Installations” speaks for itself. The idea for the business wasn’t to hard to think of. I picked something I was good at and something I had been doing for years. (Glass windows) I had a few people I knew that was doing the same and making the best out of it. So, the big question in my head was “why can’t I do something like this on my own?” The more I thought about it the more it burned inside my heart like “why haven’t you started?” Day in and night for months on why haven’t you started yet? Until the day came when I told myself “what do you have to lose?” So, I prayed about it and decided to take the leap of faith and go for it! I started using apps to bring in work and eventually the day came when I closed my first deal! That itself is another story. Making this choice was of course a life changing experience. People often ask if I would change anything and my response has always been the same…never! It’s very tough but I wouldn’t change it for the world. The freedom it brings is one of the greatest feelings ever.

John, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

My name is John Guerrero. I’m the owner of EZ Installations. We provide some of the best remodeling/repairs in the state of Texas. We thrive on building a strong foundation with our customers. By doing that we’ve gained the trust of many customers and still do as of today. We strive on making customers and not a sale. Working to serve people has worked out way better than working for money. The money will come will you focus more on your services. (Trust yourself and the process). How I got into this industry was an obvious decision for me. It was obvious because of my background in construction industry. I spent around 10 years in construction and I figured I’m pretty good at it why not try? So, that’s what I did…I mean it took a few years but eventually it started. What our future followers/customers should know about us is that we’re the BEST and we’ll prove it to you! Not only by our work but by our willingness to service you!

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?

In constriction I believe people take a lot of pride in the work they do. Same for me. Having faith and believing that you’re the BEST is one thing but actually being a man of your word is another. Especially when you say you’re going to do something, you make sure you get it done! Applying that to the work we provide is what sets us apart from the rest and is a huge factor to our reputation. Working off of that allowed us to build a very strong foundation for the company.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?

Motivational speakers: Les Brown, David Goggins, Eric Thomas, Inky Johnson, Jim Rohn, Zig Ziglar. Books: “The Bible”, “Think and grow rich”, Rich dad, poor dad”, “The magic of thinking big”, Can’t hurt me”

These speakers/books have done so much for me. It’s incredible how strong words and philosophies can be when you constantly read/listen to them over and over again. Writing them down in your restroom mirror so you can see it everyday. Phases like “I can, I will, I must!” Writing that over something that you want to obtain or simply something you wish to have in live calms a lot of purpose. When the books/speakers say something that aligns with your purpose in life it tends to stay with you, and you carry with you everywhere. I would highly encourage giving these speakers a good hear and these books a good read.
