Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to John Grenn. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
John, appreciate you joining us today. Do you think folks should manage their own social media or hire a professional? What do you do?
I have mostly done my own, learning the hard way at times but I found that there are just too many agencies that charge a lot without any guarantee of results.

John, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Under the roof of my own recording studio in the mid-90s, I worked with a number of commercially successful artists. One of his first collaborations was with Brad Ferringo of the Yakoo Boyz (YBZ). Together we generated a number of tracks, such as “Pipe Dreams” (a favorite sports anthem in the NHL) and “Calling,” (Hi-Bias Records) that charted and garnered national airplay, including the single “Now That I Found You” which hit #29 on Canada’s RPM Music Chart in March of 1999. All three tracks were commercial successes featured on numerous compilations. One of these collaborations was with Whigfield and the resulting remix of her track “I Want Your Love” was a dance hit featured on her EP Close to You (Curb Records). In 2012, I returned to releasing new music with my then EDM act Glover/Grenn and as a remixer. This led to 2 successful original EDM singles from Glover/Grenn along with a 2013 remix of the EDM violinist Kytami’s “Safe House” and my work with Juno Award-winning artist Sam Roberts and a remix of Sam’s song “Shapeshifters” (un-released commercially but out there) I have released 14 tracks to digital streaming so far this year, including 4 tracks to radio in 3 formats, Pop/AC, Country & French Language all of which have received positive support from the broadcast community. I continue to create all kinds of new music being that I am a songwriter, producer & releasing artist, and I am building my brand steadily.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I was driven earlier on in my career to gain commercial acceptance for my work, which we did, I have taken it to a further level and my goal is to achieve commercial success with my music, which is just starting to happen slowly after a re-invention of things that started in 2020 during the early part of the pandemic.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Yes, I had a great almost 9-year career as a Sound Designer with the former smartphone manufacturer, BlackBerry. That run unfortunately ended by permanent layoff when they had determined that they would be exiting the smartphone market. This created a great deal of upheaval in my life and I definitely had to pivot at that time.
