We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful John Giancarlo. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with John below.
Alright, John thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
The defining moment came when, while in my forties, I received a diagnosis that my bones were thinning and that there was nothing that I could do to improve my condition. I was told by my doctor that I would be taking strong medications for the rest of my life and that that would only slow the degeneration. I chose instead to pursue an Eastern approach to wellness and within a year I was tested again and showed dramatic improvement. Something that I was told was impossible. I was so inspired by my recovery that I began formally studying a form of Japanese Acupressure known as Jin Shin Jyutsu. Up until that time I had been running a very successful full time martial arts studio for close to fifteen years. I had dedicated decades of my life learning and teaching how to deconstruct the human body for self-defense and then suddenly I decided to shift my focus to helping people heal their bodies. While studying acupressure I began to work on my students at the studio for free just so I could get more practice in. Not only were my students and I impressed with some of the results, my students began to comment on how passionate I was about helping them feel better. It was at this time that I realized what I was truly meant to do with my life!

John, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I like to say that I grant my clients the freedom of good health, so they can live the life they love! By utilizing acupressure, which I sometimes blend with Integrative massage, I help clients achieve remarkable improvements in their well-being and happiness. I take great pride in the challenging cases referred to me, particularly those where individuals have lost hope after exhausting numerous therapies without seeing the desired results. These cases often stem from serious injuries or medical conditions, including autoimmune issues like rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia. Assisting them in managing their pain e ffectively without relying on medication brings me immense satisfaction.
My practice covers a wide range of treatments. While I primarily focus on alleviating physical pain, I also support many individuals in reducing anxiety, combating depression, and managing PTSD. I’ve even had several clients successfully discontinue all their medications after starting my treatments. Although I highlight some of the more dramatic cases I encounter, my daily practice often includes addressing more common issues such as headaches, insomnia, sciatica, and muscle soreness.

Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
I think that my reputation as someone who really cares about the people that I work with has helped me succeed. Most of my business comes from word of mouth referrals from both my clients and the networking organization that I’m a part of. Regardless of which hat I’m wearing, Therapist, martial arts instructor, or Business Networking Director Consultant I’m known as someone who will go the extra mile to help someone out.

Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
I absolutely would! In fact I would have started my training much sooner and I would have taken much longer learning my art before transitioning to doing it full time. One thing that I would have done diff erently is I would have worked in a clinic for a while to become more familiar with the administrative side of running a practice!
