We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful John Freitag . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with John below.
John, appreciate you joining us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
In comedy, everything has been a learn on my feet experience. From doing my first open-moc, to doing my first paid spot, everything has moved so fast that I have had to learn on the fly. I have been fortunate enough to have plenty of friends and acquaintances who were willing to impart me with some advice as well. I have been fortunate to not have any walls or barriers in my way of learning new things in comedy.
John, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am an Appleton, WI based stand-up comedian who got my start jist 2 years ago while I was living in South Bend, IN.
I went to my first open-mic to get over a fear of public speaking and left knowing my life would never be the same.
Since that first performance I have had the good fortune to book and produce my own show, perform at various clubs across the Midwest and even open for Chris Kattan.
I have a darker look on life that I like to bring a comedic turn to. I have expanded my stylings into 2 podcasts as well.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal with comedy, and life in general, is to get to a point where my late sister is proud of me. We lost her at too early an age, and that made me realize life is short and that I should pursue something meaningful to me instead if slaving away at a 9-5.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding thing to me about performing is making a connection with the audience members and being able to put to words the ninesense that goes on in my brain.
