Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to John Frassetto. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
John , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
Back in 2017, my sister asked me to film her Wedding. At the time, my only experience with a camera was filming fun times with friends and family (boating, hiking, etc.) and some random photography. After some market research, I bought a few essential items and gave it a shot.
From then on, I picked up more Weddings and continued to improve. Being fully self-taught, I leaned heavily on YouTube to learn equipment, techniques, and everything in between.
Apart from having a creative eye for things, being a great problem solver is an essential skill. With my day job as an Engineer, this is a huge part of me professionally. No Wedding goes off without a hitch, you need to be a resource for your couples and solve problems as they come along.
The biggest obstacles that stand in my way of learning more are the lack of spare time and burnout.

John , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
As I mentioned above, I got into Wedding Videography kind of by chance and absolutely loved it! I am based in Wisconsin, I specialize in wedding videography, capturing the most important moments of your life through cinematic storytelling. My passion is to create captivating highlight videos that blend candid and composed moments to tell a compelling story.
I am proud to be a small business who has a personalized approach. I do not out-source my shooting or editing. I love to work closely with my couple to ensure their vision is captured.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients for me is word of mouth. I fully stand by this! Yes, it’s amazing when a couple finds my Facebook, Instagram, etc. But knowing my past couples had a good enough experience to pass my name along is so fulfilling.
I have had so many new couples mention that x couple had such a great experience that they would recommend me to anyone. It really stems from putting out an amazing product for my couples, being available for them, and putting myself out there as a resource for them.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
This a great question! Reputation in your market is so important. The angle I would answer this on reputation between other vendors.
Everyone knows everyone, and there are only a few degrees of separation. Apart from putting out a good product, being friendly and helpful goes ALONG way.
For me, making fast friends with a Photographer is super important. You are working in lock step all day and the couple will notice if there is any friction.
Working together will really build your reputation in the community!
