We were lucky to catch up with John Draughter recently and have shared our conversation below.
John, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The collection of albums Death In the Flesh and Neverland are my two most meaningful and well thought out projects. Death in the flesh, the first of the series, tells the story of my struggle with depression and the darker thoughts of my mortality. In the beginning it explains how I noticed a distance from me and happiness. Very soon it goes into an expression of how my depression made me feel. It’s very important and meaningful to me being that going through that can darken someone’s world and to put something out that someone can relate to may help them to not feel as alone. Neverland continues the story to a subsection of depression relating to loneliness and heartbreak. It is just as important as I really broke my boundaries in creativity and created a sound that is unique to myself.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Originally i got into music through taking piano lessons as child. After 12 years of lessons I decided to begin producing beats to continues working with music. After a while I decided to start writing my own songs and mixing and mastering my own vocals. I began my journey using Ableton and eventually switched to mainly using FL Studios. I think what sets me apart from other artist is my deep dive into every aspect of my artistry. Things such as songwriting, producing, audio mixing, genre experimenting, and overall singing ability are things that i work on to become one of the more versatile artist in the industry. My goal is to never become repetitive and always have people wondering what my next great creation will be.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to become an artist capable of making a difference. I’d like to be a voice to help others heal and progress with help of my music. Having a platform of millions of people is only way to make a difference and help others which is what I strive to do in every moment of my journey.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist and being able to be expressive and create in anyway. Art has no wrong answers and someone will always find meaning and fulfilment in that art. Being able to help others and relate to large sums of people is very rewarding.
