We were lucky to catch up with John/Cordarious Medcalf/Dorsey recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi John/Cordarious, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a time you helped a customer really get an amazing result through their work with you.
As a company we do seasonal drops but we also make hand made pieces from time to time. With those pieces we really get to connect with our customers because we allow customizations do be done. At that point it’s our creativity plus their ideas, and it’s always turns out to be something that one of our customers love, so any time we get to create something handmade with customizations we are bringing our customers art to life.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
Hoodshark Clothing is owned by John Medcalf and Cordarious Dorsey. John is Kemper County, MS and is 23 years age and is an Alumni of Mississippi State University. Cordarious is from Lexington, MS and is 22 years of age and is an Alumni of Mississippi State University. We began our business as roommates when we had an apartment together and we both were party promoters before Covid-19 came around. We got into this business at the time because we both already had hustling mentality and always wanted to stay in motion so we use to always chill together early in the morning discussing ways of getting money and one day I threw the idea to Dorsey to let’s go into business by doing a clothing line. Once we got into the business we didn’t know too much about it but we did our research and stayed discipline with each other and held each other accountable. We sell streetwear clothing but our long term goal is to turn this into a high luxury brand. The things that set us apart from others is our support system and how we run our business. The support system we have is unmatched to us because they keep us thriving and their always amped to know what’s our next drop and we love it. We are most proud of ourselves because we actually did something that was uncomfortable for us but turnt it into positivity because we now can show the youth in our community that it’s more then one way to be successful in life. Being a great role model and leader in our generation is something we strive for daily. You can follow the brand on Instagram at (_Hoodshark). visit our website www.Hoodsharkclothing.com
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
We started off funding our business with our own money. We were new to this so at first we would fund the business, take the profit, and break it down. We have gotten to a point where we have established a bank account for our business and once something is in we keep it in. That way we don’t have to come out of pocket and our business is funded. We just have to keep flipping the money at this point.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
We keep in touch with our customers by Social media dms and by email. We also send our promo text messages to our customers that are subscribed to our text subscribers list. Even through our social media platforms when we post we try to post something that will give the audience something to grasp and respond to even if it’s a emoji. That just let us know we’re generating traffic and conversations.
