We recently connected with John Conroy and have shared our conversation below.
John, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about a time you helped a customer really get an amazing result through their work with you.
Finding new talent definitely takes a creative and socially conscience eye. Our brands are constantly changing so I try to find new models and talent that match the current trends while sticking to my classic roots. My current roster has a great mix from all over and knowing what agency and market to place them in is the key.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I started as a model in NYC . Signing contracts with Elite, Ford and Wilhelmina. I was fortunate enough to work all over the world for top clients such as Calvin Klein , Armani, Gianni Versace, Men’s Health and Neiman Marcus to name a few. I was always creative as a kid constantly doodling, drawing logos from my favorite bands and creating art. I was drawn to photography through my travels and taking pictures of my fellow models during my travels. This hobby became my career when I started to shoot the models portfolios and work for fashion magazines. One of my big breaks was shooting for American Idol. I photographed the top 10 finalists working with icons like Carrie Underwood and Jennifer Hudson.
Today I work as a mother agent and model scout. I am still an active model but really enjoy getting people started in the business with trust and integrity. There are so many so called agents out there. I take pride in navigating my models to the industry’s best and most trusted. I am open to looking at all types and ages 5 and up. The modeling world has really opened its arms to everyone. www.johnconroymgmt.com
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I have been a professional model and commercial actor for over 35 years. I have always looked at this career path as a business and didn’t get sidetracked with the fluff or dark paths any industry can present. Business can be challenging but I never burned any bridges with my agents or clients. This way of conducting my career has without a doubt opened more doors for my management business.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Word of mouth is still the best advertising anyone can ask for. With social media being a major platform in our society having a good reputation and having true success stories is crucial.
