We were lucky to catch up with Johanny Narcisse recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Johanny, thanks for joining us today. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
One day I hope my legacy will be that I open multiple shops in different locations. The first being my hometown in Orlando, Florida and then branching out and reaching nearby cities like Miami, and even expanding out the state to Atlanta. My ultimate goal, is to teach the next set of entrepreneurs that nails is more than meets the eye. There is longevity and a career in being a nail tech if one decides that path for themselves.
Johanny, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have been doing nails since April of 2020 when CoVid first started. At first it was a hobby and to keep me occupied while I was stuck in the house, and then I grew to love doing it and servicing other people and have them leave with a smile on their face. One of the best feelings is not when a set is completed and the design looks amazing, but it’s when the client leaves happier than when they came in. That’s one of the main reasons that pushes me to continue with what I’m doing. Along with my mom, she is absolutely my biggest supporter and she deserves the world. The way that I work, one day Im going to give it to her. Im set apart from other technicians because what I do is in me, not on me. I don’t need to be doing celebrity nails to know that my line of work is what I should be doing and it’s the right thing for me, I do it because i genuinely love what I do, and it’s more than just money or being known for me, its the art itself. There is an abundance of art in nails that shows when I start to when I finish.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
Starting my business, as scary as it was, I used my last job as a a babysitter to fund it. I spent months babysitting and buying my supplies little by little because it was only the stepping stone into my business. I knew that I could gain so much out of nails, but to start I had to have income coming in from somewhere else in order to get where I am now.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I built my audience through social media by catering to my target audience and finding my niche. I knew my clientele I initially wanted was from the ages 18-26 and I had to appeal to them. I had to find out my algorithm, I had to look the part, from keeping up with my nails , to my lashes , even down to my toes. Also, by not being shy and showing a side of myself to my clients that is more than just business. That I use my business to fund my everyday lifestyle, I wanted to show that a young entrepreneur can do whatever they set their mind to in the midst of doubt & criticism.
