Absolutely! When it comes to building a reputation within your market, I firmly believe that consistency and being a valuable resource are key. Instead of approaching it with a sales-driven mindset, I’ve always focused on being a teacher, someone who genuinely wants to inspire and uplift those around me.
By consistently providing valuable content, insights, and expertise, I’ve been able to establish myself as a trusted source within my industry. Whether it’s through blog posts, social media interactions, or speaking engagements, my goal has always been to share knowledge and empower others.
To illustrate this point, let me share an example from the real world. Think about a company or individual who has made a significant impact in their industry by consistently offering valuable resources. For instance, there’s a fitness brand that not only sells products but also provides free workout guides, nutritional tips, and motivational content through their website and social media platforms. They’ve built a reputation as a go-to resource for fitness enthusiasts, and people trust their expertise. How did you build your audience on social media?
Absolutely! When I first opened The WOW PWR on Instagram, my main focus was to build a following by sharing content aligned with women empowerment. To my surprise, it took off like a rocket! In just three months, we went from zero to 15k followers, and we were absolutely stoked and amazed by the response.
However, we soon learned a valuable lesson. It’s not just about the number of followers; it’s about building a community of loyal and engaged individuals who truly resonate with your vision. We made a mistake by not being as intentional with our content and value propositions, and as a result, we noticed people starting to unfollow. Our follower count dropped to a little over 8k, and it was a bit discouraging at first.
But you know what? It turned out to be a blessing in disguise. It taught us the importance of being mindful, intentional, and authentic in our content. We realized that it’s not about attracting everyone; it’s about attracting the right people who genuinely align with our brand and mission.
So, my advice to those starting to build their social media presence is to be true to yourself and your values. Don’t be swayed by numbers or try to please everyone. Focus on creating content that truly resonates with your target audience, even if it means attracting a smaller but more engaged following. Be intentional, be authentic, and remember that the right people will come and stay when they connect with the real essence of your brand.
