We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Johanna Mirpuri a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Johanna, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with education – we’d love to hear your thoughts about how we can better prepare students for a more fulfilling life and career.
The way to prepare our students for a more fulfilling life and career as adults is to teach them life skills. Our education system is training kids to become workers. They go to school the same time as a 9-5 employee, waking up every day at the same time as their parents getting ready to go to school, just as their parents do for work. So, they are not taught any life skills that they would normally learn at home.
The education system lacks teaching children about the most important things that they will need to build a family and businesses. This helps to have self sustainable people. Children don’t know how to keep a home, which is taught in home economics class. I no longer see schools implementing how to garden like we used to. Schools are not teaching children about the basics of finances, how taxes work, entrepreneurship, how to start a business. Nothing that will help them to become self sustaining adults in the future.
Especially when it comes to personal finances, I believe that the school system owes each and every child to understand how personal finances work. But it be much harder to keep people in debt, if they didn’t know.
I don’t ever remember learning these things outside of home economics, which is now a rare elective in many schools.
Johanna, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Most people know me as Momma Cuisine. Since 2009 I have created a brand and a cooking personality on television and social media. I’ve interviewed lots of celebrity chefs, created my own online cooking show, hundreds of television appearances, and more.
In 2018, I discover the world and industry of life insurance. I never thought of myself of being a professional in this industry. But I quickly learned what an amazing career in business. This can be. The business revolves around, creating generational wealth for families, educating people about personal finances and tax-free retirement accounts, which are not normally known information by typical middle-class, hard-working Americans.
Being obsessed with entrepreneurship, since I was a kid, and already a full-time entrepreneur as Momma Cuisine, I saw learning this industry, and getting licensed to grow my own agency nationwide as a huge opportunity to create a legacy.
I am very proud of the work that we do, and helping clients solve their problems and offer solutions for the retirement. It is a huge fear for many who are facing retirement very soon. I’m also very proud of helping people to understand that they have so much power to create generational wealth for their bloodline. I am proud of teaching every day, hard-working people about how to leverage tax code to their advantage, the weather while they do.
I want our prospective clients to know that Barry Corp. is on their side. We will represent them to the best of our abilities and work with our partners to ensure that we place them in the products that will give them the best results for the retirement savings, so they can sleep well at night and enjoy their retirement years. We are obsessed with making sure our agents have elite skills to process and give them solutions, offer, exceptional service, that they will not find with competitors, and place them in exclusive products that they know they can depend on.
Barry Corp. is partnered with the nations top A and A+ carriers to ensure that we help each, and every client take advantage of tax codes to have tax free retirement savings, create their own pensions, and have tax-free inheritance for their beneficiaries to ensure as much generational wealth as possible.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
In 2009 I started my journey in entrepreneurship as a cooking personality in medias Momma Cuisine. Never would I have known that I would be in the insurance industry growing an agency. The two industries are nowhere near each other.
However, in 2018, an opportunity presented itself. And I was a time in my life that I was searching for what else was for me outside of television and media. I know I wanted to be a full-time entrepreneurs. That was my obsession. I am obsessed with my freedom. I’m obsessed with my legacy. And I’m obsessed with making sure that my children will not be slaves to the 9-5 and understand the power of entrepreneurship.
I saw a clear opportunity in the financial services industry to build my own agency. I saw a vision for myself in the woman that I wanted to become involved into and my children. I saw a vision for my family that this industry can provide, and change our lives completely, as well as those who will become top agents in our agency.
It’s always a gutsy move to pivot into a completely new industry. But when you look at yourself, you realize you have many skills that can transfer into anything that you want to do, and anyone that you want to become in life. But you have to find it within yourself to want it so badly that you will not let the mediocre world. Keep you in a box. Because the truth is most people will never pull the trigger to be great in their life. And you have to choose to be the exception!
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
We find a lots of our clients through leads. Leads give us access to people who are searching for the solutions that we provide.
The best way that we have kept in touch with clients is to simply create a relationship. That relationship Hass to go beyond the transaction. Especially when we are talking about personal finances, our clients need to know that we care about them. They need to know that they can trust us. They need to know that we actually care about their legacy. Only then will return the lead into a client. And a client into a friend.
