We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Johana Acuna. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Johana below.
Johana, appreciate you joining us today. Parents can play a significant role in affecting how our lives and careers turn out – and so we think it’s important to look back and have conversations about what our parents did that affected us positive (or negatively) so that we can learn from the billions of experiences in each generation. What’s something you feel your parents did right that impacted you positively.
My father came to this country when he was just 6 years old, he lived in Brooklyn, New York and actually returned back to his motherland when he was 10. He was aware of the opportunities this country could give him and when he was old enough to leave home he returned to the US, this time with my mother to live in Miami. They never looked back. Together, they built their own office technology company and have successfully been in business for 38 years. This is what they did right. They forged a path that led me to become an entrepreneur myself and start my own womens gym apparel business, Bodihi Fit.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I was born and raised in this beautiful city of Miami. I have been blessed with two amazing parents that taught me to work hard my entire life, especially when it comes to following your heart. I started my women’s apparel line in January of 2021. Bodihi Fit. I have been athletic since I was 8 years old and involved in the fitness industry since I was 18. As a woman, what is the number thing we are always searching for when it comes to working out? New gym fits! I take the time to carefully select the latest styles without compromising reliability. I always ask for feedback and I take time to actually listen. What they like, what can be done better or different, and of course— I will never sell anything I wouldn’t wear myself. I stand behind my line, proudly.

Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
I have a big presence on social media, I stay connected and I reach out to my clients personally. I am building true client relationships and loyalty—not just a transaction. I attend local events on a regular basis and keep my clients engaged with periodic emails/newsletters/blogs of not only the apparel business but I invite them into my own personal journey.

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
I love this question. I am always funding my business. You might ask “what do you mean? I am still a relatively new small business and I am learning everyday the ins and outs of having a business. I didn’t start out with any capital per se, I took a leap of faith and decided never to look back.
