We were lucky to catch up with Joey Wallace recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Joey thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Success in wedding photography isn’t just about taking beautiful pictures—it’s about building trust, understanding people, and creating an experience that feels effortless for your clients. For me, it’s a balance of professionalism and personality: showing up prepared, staying adaptable to whatever the day brings, and bringing a little bit of joy and humor along the way. It’s about capturing moments as they naturally unfold, while also crafting images that tell a story people will treasure forever. The business side—consistency, communication, and reliability—is just as important as the artistry, because without it, the magic of the day can’t truly shine through.

Joey , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m someone who loves capturing real, unscripted moments and turning them into memories people will cherish forever. I’m equal parts goofball and professional—showing up prepared for anything, but never afraid to laugh along the way. I equally care more about how people feel in front of my camera and how perfect a shot looks, because the best photos come from real emotion. At the end of the day, I just want to capture, in the best ways possible, people celebrating their lives, their love, and the little moments that make it all worth remembering.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Over the years, I’ve worked hard to earn a reputation as one of the top wedding photographers in Atlanta. My focus has always been on more than just taking beautiful photos—it’s about creating an experience that feels seamless, fun, and personal for every couple. By combining professionalism, creativity, and genuine care for my clients, I’ve built a business that thrives on referrals, repeat clients, and heartfelt reviews. I believe that consistently delivering exceptional work and treating every couple like family is what helps a photographer rise to be recognized among the best wedding photographers in Atlanta.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of clients for my business has always been referrals. We don’t just take photos—we build real friendships with the couples we work with, and that personal connection shows in every moment we capture. Our clients trust us because we’re not just good at what we do—we go above and beyond to make their day unforgettable. When people feel seen, cared for, and genuinely understood, they recommend us to their friends, and that word-of-mouth reputation has become the cornerstone of our business. It’s a cycle of trust, friendship, and exceptional photography that keeps our business growing and thriving.
