We recently connected with Joey Van Ryan and have shared our conversation below.
Joey, appreciate you joining us today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
It’s difficult to label myself as an artist or a creator, I bit of both I believe. I live in the hustle and bustle like any other small business owner who wants to make their brand thrive and be well known. By day I work in the corporate design world, and by night I work on my own stuff. I’m constantly working. I hope one day I can leave my day job and fully focus on brand and going above and beyond! One day at a time, you know?
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I knew fashion was my thing as a teen. It’s what I wanted. I went to study fashion design in college, got my diploma and then lunged into the industry right after. I’ve worked with various fields in the design umbrella, from wholesale clothes, cheer, football, dance, and department store apparel. I mean, I’ve done it all for the most part. Then I told myself I wanted to make my own thing, my own brand and that’s where I am today. I started in 2018 with my brand launch that summer and it was spectacular. I cannot thank enough to everyone who has supported me along the way.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Support local artists. In every sense of the word. The world is flooded with fast fashion, with manufacturers that are producing quantity over quality every day. Who knows the conditions of its workers. I make quality clothing, I design it, and I construct it. I’m my own team. There is nothing greater than supporting creative people right in your own community.
Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
I think its dope. I’ve been actively doing research on how to get them on the market. I also have been raving designing with meta fashion. I think its out of this world and I’m all for it. Who knows, I might have store front in the metaverse and sell NFTS as well!
