Joey, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?

I first knew I wanted to pursue a recording career when I started to understand how music was involved in my daily life and how it made me feel. I have used music for coping, expression, and even a self-theraputic for really trying times in my life. I want people to feel what I feel when I listen to my favorite artists, and to truly understand the meanings behind the words and vocals that are used in most songs. Once you unlock that ability, music becomes visibly creative on new levels. This career has truly changed my life.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

My name is Joey Jones, and I am an Independent Recording Artist who is originally from the Wichita, Kansas area. By the time you read this, I will have turned 25, and have been working on this career for going on seven years. This industry is very challenging, but I truly believe it is what I was born to do.

Anytime that I am performing, I try to offer a vivid concert concept within my performances. I aspire to continue showing crowds the shows I have to offer. My individualism is something that I feel continues to have people interested in my music.

I was featured on the Billboard Music Awards in 2020, performed for the Wichita, Kansas Pride Celebration in 2022, performed on Music Row in Nashville, Tennessee in 2020, shared the stage with Miss America 2017 in 2018, and so many more amazing opportunities that have kept me within this industry. All of those opportunities were never handed to me. I strive and work to have the opportunities that are offered to me, and I am consistently working on building a successful career for myself. The amazing people that I have met along the way are also to thank for these amazing opportunities.

: Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?

My goal that is driving me to continue making my dreams come true is to eventually be able to help others with my music. Music has always bern such a self-theraputic tool for me, due to the fact I could take what I was going through and relate to certain songs in certain times in my life. I want to be able to be as relatable and driven as possible!

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.

Something that I think non-creatives will never truly understand about the journey of an independent recording artists is that it’s not just a hobby, and it’s an extremely difficult industry to become involved in. I have had countless no’s throughout the course of my journey, but also some very blessed yes’ that I worked so hard to prove my talent for. I would not be where I am today if I believed that it was something that I can just focus on for a second of the day and let it do the work for me.

I am constantly submitting for new projects, requesting time with producers, cutting tracks, having tracks made, writing lyrics, working on concepts, exposure strategies, promo, etc. None of it is easy nor cheap, so it’s been a slow but great learning experience for my future career.
