Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Joey Bartlett. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Joey , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
I don’t perceive ‘risk’ as something negative; in my opinion, comfort leads to stagnation. The biggest risk I have taken is leaving my permanent job in 2020 before the pandemic affected the world. This decision was necessary as I was tired of complaining about the lack of preservation regarding Trinbagonian culture. As a result, my book ‘There’s Something Strange Happening in Talparo’ was birthed, focusing on Caribbean folklore.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
professionally, I am known as Joey Bartlett, and I hail from the beautiful Caribbean Island of Trinidad. With a fervor for the thriller horror genre, I find inspiration in its captivating storytelling. My creative aesthetic is deeply influenced by the vibrancy and richness of Trinidad and Tobago’s culture. As an author and freelance journalist, I have immersed myself in the world of writing and storytelling. Currently, I am passionately working on a movie short based on one of the captivating stories from my book. This project allows me to bring my narrative to life visually, enhancing the immersive experience for the audience. However, to ensure the project’s successful completion, I am considering the possibility of joining OnlyFans.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to learn to be self-reliant and break free from dependency on others, especially when all I had to offer was a mere “I’ll owe you one.” However, this is not the time for Jerry Springer stories; those tales are best left for another occasion
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
What drives me is the potential to not only carve my own path but also become a pioneer in the fields of folklore, horror, and thriller, akin to legends such as Wes Craven, Alfred Hitchcock, and Stephen King, just to name a few. My aspiration goes beyond creative endeavors; it extends to creating a new source of revenue. My ultimate goal is to make Trinidad and Tobago the hub of folklore in the Caribbean. Similar to Mexico’s Dia de los Muertos, I envision our own unique and vibrant traditions taking root. It’s a lofty ambition, but I am committed to realizing this dream.
