We recently connected with Joely Live and have shared our conversation below.
Joely , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
When it comes to defining success, there are so many different ways to describe. The #1 thing I think it takes to be successful is not taking NO for an answer. Every time that someone tells you that your idea isn’t good enough, that you won’t make it, or now is just not a good time then DON’T LISTEN. If you are passionate about your idea and know that you have the work ethic for what it takes to be successful, find a work around and make it happen. Persistent and resilience is what it takes to be successful.
Joely , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hi, my name is Joely Live! I am the host and creator of the digital series Pucker Up! Pucker up is the show where guests join me, eat super sour candy, and answer questions. It has really taken over the internet over the course of the year it has been out with over 120+ Million views across social media.
For a back, short story, it all started back when I was 5 years old. I modeled in NYC my entire life, from 5 years old to 19 years old. Throughout those years, I found a love for interviewing people which started at age 10 when I was a Sports Illustrated Kid reporter. Fast foward, I moved to LA at 20 years old and decided to take interviewing seriously. Through a lot of up and downs, I got a shot and started interviewing celebs and broke into the industry, After 3 years of that, I decided to start Pucker Up! Which is the best thing that I have ever done!
For everyone that has been on PU, watched PU, or shared PU, if you are reading this, I LOVE YOU and THANK YOU!
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
This is a fun question because I never really talk about the starting days of Pucker Up. When I first started, it was an idea I thought of in my garage and decided to quit my job to peruse it. I had NO idea what I was doing, I just knew I needed to do it. At first, I was asking all my friends to be guests on the show. It worked for the first month or two but then it stopped and I found that no one was down to do it. I freaked out, had a few mental breakdowns. Then one day, my mom was visiting me in LA, and I was like WAIT, I have an idea. So I wrote to PR firms, managers, reps, and re-thought the entire strategy to booking guests. It worked and the rest is history. I SO easily could have given up BUT instead I just KNEW there was a way – I just needed to figure it out. We did.
How’d you meet your business partner?
Tyler and Mateo – the two best people I know. Tyler and I met about 3 years ago, Mateo 4 years ago. Mateo is our videographer and master mind behind the video aspect for Pucker Up and Tyler is lead producer. Without these two people, we would NOT have Pucker UP the way it is today. I owe them everything. (and my mom too lol) – we met through my old job and social media and now they are the two biggest people in my life and I owe them SO MUCH. We like to say we are the real life iCarly – which actually fits us really well. 3 best friends making Pucker Up happen!
