We were lucky to catch up with Joëlle Reyes recently and have shared our conversation below.
Joëlle, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
I co-own Beyond The Weights with my wife, Alysa.
At Beyond The Weights, we help burnt-out yo-yo dieters break free from the all-or-nothing cycle. We work with high-achieving women who’ve checked all the boxes but still feel disconnected from their bodies—constantly chasing energy, confidence, and consistency, but never quite landing. They’re done with extremes and ready for a grounded, feel-good approach that actually lasts.
We believe the body is the gateway to soulful freedom. Through intentional movement, mindful nourishment, and alignment, we help women reclaim strength, energy, and confidence—not just in how they move, but in how they live. It’s about feeling safe, empowered, and fully at home in your own skin.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
After 10 years in the wellness industry—spanning corporate programs, private training studios, and outpatient facilities—I saw the same frustrating pattern over and over: clients being treated like checklists instead of whole humans. Alongside my wife Alysa, we started Beyond The Weights to change that.
Together, we blend strength training, metabolic healing, mindset work, and lifestyle coaching to help women create lasting results built in freedom, not force. With degrees in Wellness, Exercise Science, Psychology, and advanced certifications in strength and functional nutrition, we take a truly holistic approach—because real transformation starts when you treat the body, mind, and soul as one.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Absolutely—here’s a heartfelt, grounded version of your story that ties into your mission and why your approach matters so deeply:
⸻
For years, my own journey with weight loss was rooted in self-hate, control, and chasing extremes. I was always “on” or “off,” swinging between rigid plans and complete burnout—believing that being smaller would finally make me feel confident, worthy, and in control of my life. But no matter how much weight I lost, I never felt enough.
It wasn’t until I started healing my relationship with my body—through movement, nourishment, and self-compassion—that everything changed. I stopped punishing myself and started listening to my body. I learned how to support it, not just shrink it. That shift is why I’m so passionate about teaching a health-first, self-love-based approach today. Because I know firsthand: sustainable results don’t come from shame or force. They come from connection, care, and finally feeling at home in your own skin.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
Here’s a warm, story-driven version of how you and Alysa met—fun, a little romantic, and totally on brand:
⸻
I moved to Rhode Island for college and landed a job at a local personal training studio. Around the same time, I was swiping through OKCupid and matched with a girl named Alysa. We instantly hit it off, messaging back and forth until one day, we realized something wild—we both worked at the same gym. I had just been hired… and she was already on staff.
Before we officially started working together, we decided to meet up at a gay club (because where else do great love stories begin?). We danced, we laughed, and something just clicked. From that night on, it was kind of game over. We went from co-workers to soulmates, built a life, a business, and a mission together… and the rest is history.
