Alright, Joel thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. The first dollar you earn is always exciting – it’s like the start of a new chapter and so we’d love to hear about the first time you sold or generated revenue from your creative work?

So the first time i generated revenue as a creative was when i started my clothing line. My first release did way better than expected. It took me forever to create my logo along with my first design. When it finally came to life, I hit the the streets along with social medial, 100 miles and running lol. My first few sales were from an add i put out in the form of a commercial. A good friend of mine is a well known videographer, so we worked together to create the best promotional video ever recorded. With that video i received a lot of love and attention as a new designer in the world of fashion. That’s when i learned strangers were supporting more than friends / family. I realized i had a gift and people wanted more of what i had to offer. My first drop was a success. The money i made was able pay alot of bills and it felt great. I even was invited to news 12 for an interview.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

My Name is Joel Guerrier. I grew up in Nyack NY as the first generation born from immigrant Haitian parents. My journey as an entrepreneur started at the age of 30. I was already, teaching but i felt as if i had more to offer the kids in the community so i started an online academy to assisted kids who were struggling with math. During the pandemic my online tutoring business rapidly grew. After being diagnosed with covid 19, i was forced to quarantine for 1 month. while in isolation, i created , design, and release my own brand of clothes. I successfully created the most popular clothing line in my city. I did not stop there. I than had an idea about creating a jingle (a promo song) for my clothing line. I than reached out to a well known producer and created the biggest hit song my city has ever heard from a local first time artist. This is when i realized how talented i was and how much time I’ve wasted in life. I than split my LLC into 4 different business DBAs. Tutoring , Clothing, Music, and Marketing/entertainment. Despite running 4 different business, they all go hand in hand which make it simple and easy to stay on top of everything. That truly sets me apart from other business owners because I’m able to juggle more than one task at a time. My biggest accomplishment is recording / releasing a HIT SONG (by accident lol). The one thing i want my fans and supports to know about me is, i am driven by purpose and not money. Nothing i do is for money. I believe we all have a purpose in life and mine is to motivate and influence others to think outside the box. Anything you ever thought about doing, DO IT !!! we spend all our years trading time for money. I’ve learned how to use money to by back time.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?

The way i built my audience was by being myself. I noticed everytime i said or did certain thing, id get more engagenment/interaction than usual. Social media brought out my humorus side. I realized what the people wanted from me and i continued to feed them with that. I than started to put out ads, and leard how to read date / analytics. Despite not having a large following, i learned how social media algorythm works through the use of targeted ads.

Advice;
Be yourself… Speak only what you know…. and learn how to run ads and read data after running them.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?

The most rewarding aspect about being a creative is, influencing / inspiring others to step out their comfort zone to find their purpose.
