Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Joel Daley. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Joel, thanks for joining us today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
After coming up with the idea for a consulting company, it was time to take action. The journey wasn’t easy. First, I had to establish my business as a legal entity. Then, I made a list of friends who I believed would make great partners. With my experience as a director, I understood the importance of having a solid team. Without them, scaling the business would have been nearly impossible.
Once I had my team in place, I pooled all the money from my savings to get an office a decision that was one of the scariest for me. Doubts and “what ifs” constantly crossed my mind, but I had to let my faith overcome my fear.
The first few months were rough. We met with many potential clients, but nothing was guaranteed. After a lot of promotion on social media and networking at events, business started to pick up. But a few months later, things slowed down again. Those slow months were tough; I had rent to pay for the office, along with my personal bills. There were countless times I thought about quitting. Fortunately, I had a supportive team who kept me motivated, and because of them, we’re still here today.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I have always been a man about business and creativity. My first business was a clothing brand. In the beginning, I searched for a web developer but couldn’t afford one, so I came across a few sites that allowed me to do it myself. The creative in me was eager to learn how to design a website for myself. Afterward, word got out that I had designed my brand’s website, and soon all my friends wanted me to design theirs. The more sites I began to design, the better I got. I started doing websites for free just to build my portfolio, but then it started weighing on me. I was making no money from my clothing brand or designing websites. Designing sites was taking up most of my time, and I had bills to pay.
My love for creating and advising, combined with a lack of planning, brought me to rock bottom. I was putting in too much work for no pay. 2013 was a rough time for me, and I knew I needed to reflect on my future. During this period, I spent many days talking to God, and He revealed my purpose: to help and guide others to find their purpose. After receiving that revelation, I began to plan, which led me to pivot my business from a clothing brand to a multimedia company named “Spider Web.” The more I designed websites for other brands, the more I learned about different businesses, realizing that my purpose wasn’t just in creating but in guiding and empowering others.

Any advice for managing a team?
My advice for managing a team is to make each member feel like more than just an employee. As a leader, it’s crucial to serve your team and lead by example. Demonstrating humility fosters respect and creates a sense of unity. I always tell my team, ‘You don’t work for me; we work together to achieve our goals.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
When it came to funding my company, I took a leap of faith and used my savings, trusting that everything would work out. They always say, ‘Build it, and they will come,’ so I did and they definitely started coming. Establishing a physical business with a dedicated team made my clients take my services more seriously, compared to relying on just one person to handle an entire project, often surrounded by distractions.
