We were lucky to catch up with Joe / Tyler Schwarz / Cosby recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Joe / Tyler thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you recount a story of an unexpected problem you’ve faced along the way?
As a duo from different backgrounds, we realized quickly that there’s a consistent disconnect throughout our ‘scene’ that is not only uncomfortable, but potentially unsafe for some. It has, and will continue to be our goal to cultivate an approachable environment that encourages love and understanding. Although most OG dubstep and EDM lovers can probably say that their favorite moments were surrounded by other sweaty, tired, and non-judgmental peers at shows or festivals, that’s unfortunately not the case for a new generation. Music has always and will always be for the new generation. The space that we as artists create directly impacts the ‘scene’. Creating a space that is reminiscent of a simpler time, a safer time, and an overall more enjoyable time, is imperative for the future of our local scenes. We work to make sure that it’s no longer a gate kept community.

Joe / Tyler, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
BLIZZYNCRUXX formed out of two best friends throwing our own parties, figuring out djing in a sweaty basement, going back to back. Tyler (BLIZZY) got into the game making hip-hop beats with his friends in the local rap scene in Cincinnati.
Joe (CRUXX), a world traveler, lifelong artist, and music theory deviant had spent years composing everything from classical music and blues to metal and trap.
The two have since discovered a creative chemistry that is undeniable. A quick 3 – month residency at Hi-Fi in Mt. Adams lead to a booked out summer, touring from south Florida to Denver and a bunch of places in between.
The duo’s meteoric rise is being met with an ongoing resistance in the Cincinnati scene and has been tough grounds for the Duo. Rather than allow for the scene to remain exclusive, we want to make it accessible. We created Nobl in hopes to start to build numbers in support and love. The groups newly formed artist collective has been gathering new members and strives to help develop artists that have been pushed out or rejected by the scene for making waves and threatening other artists.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me (CRUXX) the most rewarding thing is the genuine connection with my audience. I remember the first night mixing in an original track, and that moment when everyone’s ear perked up and the room loved it, it was like lightning had hit me where I stood. Since then it’s been eat, sleep, and bleed connection to keep that magic alive, I believe it shows.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
It’s two fold. We want to push the greatest sound production that we can, and in our wake, build the accessible and loving atmosphere that this scene deserves for it’s artists and it’s people.
