We recently connected with Joe Simmons and have shared our conversation below.
Joe, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
Backstory: I used to work at a gas station, and I believed at that time that my store manager possessed let competency and potential than I would develop in a short period of time. He was promoted at the right time. My trainer has trained me on the normal and advanced operations of running a store. When I found out what my store manager’s salary was and the bonuses he was getting based on our store’s performance and his lack of leadership I developed a new vision for my career. “If he can make $XX, XXX every year than I could at least make $50,000 a year with a hotdog stand.” From that point I was sold on becoming a business owner. In the future at University, I would have another experience that propelled me to want to “real entrepreneurship as my ultimate business goal and career.
Business Origin Story: I was always an ambitious person and loved business. From 2010-2012 I suffered from a mild depression, and I used personal development and other health related activities to overcome it and rebuild my courage, confidence, and competence greater than before. I became a former corporate trainer for a multi-billion-dollar enterprise for 7 years, I developed several high-performance tools and resources that I shared with my trainees that allowed them to win multiple awards and accolades. During the pandemic I was struggling to regain employment in the contracted economy. Jacoby Waters, my mentee and affectionately known as “little brother” introduced me into podcasting. He started to share his experiences with me regarding podcasting, I figured I would give it a shot and I launched the Paradigms & Perspectives Podcast which was inspired by Bob Proctor, from the Secret and his Paradigm Shift teachings. I knew I had a message that I wanted to share with the world just like I did with my trainees while in corporate. I was passionate about this because I always remember those struggling years from 2010-2012 when I fell rock bottom and how I wished I had more resources to accelerate my progress and growth. So, with Paradigms & Perspectives Media the goal is to provide high performance tools, resources, guides, and blueprints to ambitious business professionals so they can achieve their goals in half the time with half the stress.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I had always wanted to write a book and become an author. It took me 5 years to write my first book from the time I knew I wanted to. I had struggled so long because of procrastination, perfectionism, and a lack of accountability. I founded a coach on Facebook who saw the potential in me, and she helped me achieve my goal of becoming an author. I didn’t dwell on the fact that 5 years had gone by or the colleagues that told me I would never write a book because I had done it yet even thought I had been telling them for years prior that I would do it. I wrote everyday (7 days a week) for 30 minutes and my first book was published in 2019 with several more currently in development.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A lesson I had to unlearn was that “everyone doesn’t have the same ambition and most people are ok with average or mediocrity.”,
Backstory: While working at multi-billion-dollar enterprise as an operations leader in addition to a corporate trainer and subject matter expert I noticed that the ambition between myself and my high performing trainees as compared to the others are team experienced a great disparity. The others on the team didn’t like high standards they were on with the “average or mediocre” standards set by management. Most of the conflicts I experienced with steamed from the fact that I was more potential of excellence in them than they want to display. After a managerial meeting with the entire team and a change in operations I no longer desired to hold others to my “high standards” and allowed them to accept and achieve average and below average results resulting in some of my teammates experiencing termination and regression acceptable performance leading to performance improvement monitoring.
