We recently connected with Joe McGreal and have shared our conversation below.
Joe, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about a time you helped a customer really get an amazing result through their work with you.
I opened my Private Investigations Agency to help people. One of my first clients was a CEO who was convinced that someone was spying on him.
His personal assistant, secretary, wife and friends told him he was wrong.
My client could not put his finger on it but he was convinced that his business partner was acting differently and somehow seemed to have access to confidential information.
The partner would drop little hints with information that he should not have known about. My client became increasingly paranoid even going so far as having cell phone conversations in his parked car to avoid anyone overhearing his discussions.
He was concerned because he had a $30 million merger coming up with a new group of investors and he did not want his current business partner, who was not involved, to derail that deal. He hired me to find out if he was being spied on.
I started by doing visual sweeps of his house, his condo, his office and his car. I did not find anything during that first sweep. This type of search would require further digging.
A few days later I went back with new equipment including a DD3150 Camera Locater. This model also has a radio frequency detector to locate any devices that transmit radio signals.
Within minutes I discovered audio recording devices drilled into the wood under his pool table, inside the fabric of his office chair and inside the air conditioning vent of his car.
I informed the client that he could remove the devices, which would alert his partner that he was onto him, or just leave them. I recommended leaving them in place.
The purpose of leaving the audio bugs in place would be to routinely drop false information about the merger to prevent the partner from disrupting the actual deal. My client did it and it worked.
The merger went through without any problems. My client was very happy and I had my first customer success story.
My client later dropped his business partner and referred me to his friends and family for future cases.
The new cases did not involve corporate espionage but helped expand my services with cases involving marriage infidelity, insurance fraud, surveillance operations and employee background checks.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Joseph McGreal and I am a licensed Private Detective in Chicago, Illinois.
I have over twenty years of experience including five years as a Police Officer. I have a bachelors degree in Marketing and a masters degree in Public Administration.
I performed private security services for elite clients for over a decade. This experience pushed me to continue helping wildly successful clients solve a variety of complex personal and professional problems.
My company, PCI Investigations, is different than many other detective agencies. I receive unique client requests all the time.
Other agencies offer industry standard services like background checks, process serving and insurance fraud investigations. While I do offer those services, my concentration is on VIP-customized private investigations.
I help clients establish policies and procedures to solve issues unique to their companies and families.
Need to figure out how to safely and securely transport millions of dollars worth of property?
I provide up to four options and walk the staff through the first few transports.
Need to find a lost friend or family member but have had no luck?
I will have information on their whereabouts anywhere in the world within 24 hours.
Need evidence that your spouse is cheating on you but don’t want a prolonged court battle?
I not only conduct surveillance to watch them going to a motel with their new lover. I also provide legally-obtained, date and time stamped pictures and videos of the cheating to be used in court.
Don’t feel safe sending your children to activities around the city?
I provide armed escort services to safely transport families anywhere they need to go.
I am proud that the work I do helps people that are in need and do not know where else to turn. I am highly selective and do not take every case that comes along.
The main factor that sets me apart from others is the creative solutions I come up with to solve my clients unique problems.
I come up with ideas that they never thought of that solves their problems and helps to achieve the goals they set out to accomplish.
If you have a problem and no one else can help, PCI Investigations will use innovative methods to get answers and find the closure you need.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I built my audience on social media through slow and steady targeted marketing. I do not use outside agencies to help market PCI Investigations. I create the marketing campaigns myself with a combination of free software and free phone apps.
My advice for anyone just starting to build a social media presence for a business is to not look at the numbers. Create social media sites that perfectly describe you and your business. Search for like-minded people and businesses. Use relevant hash tags and do all of the basic things but don’t watch the numbers.
Watching how slow the growth of your social media presence is can be discouraging. Just showcase your work and be consistent with posting new material. Your audience will find you.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clients for me is word-of-mouth from previous clients.
In the private investigations industry the clients usually have secrets that they do not want made public. This means that even happy clients will not publicly post positive reviews for your business.
It is up to you to make the clients so happy with your services that they brag about the results of your investigations to their friends in private. Those friends, and their family, can be your next clients.
