We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Joe Mcgee a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Joe, thanks for joining us today. Early in your career, how did you think through the decision of whether to start your own firm or join an established firm?
I joined Sovreign after meeting my business partner, Daniel Frank. He had the vision and started much of the groundwork to get the company running. He was looking for someone, or a couple of people, to help him bring the business to life. Growing the business with a talented partner with the same vision was ideal. We saw a clear opportunity to help businesses and entrepreneurs adopt Bitcoin as a treasury reserve asset and improve their operations with a forward-thinking approach. Bitcoin is an emerging space, and we wanted to create a company that reflected our shared values and our vision for the future, where Bitcoin plays a significant role in business operations.
The decision to start Sovreign was driven by our desire to shape our business from the ground up. We wanted to build a company that focused exclusively on Bitcoin and offered tailored solutions for small and medium enterprises and entrepreneurs. Starting our own venture gave us the flexibility to move quickly, innovate, and create meaningful partnerships aligned with our long-term goals.

While the learning curve has been steep, especially as I transitioned from a military career into business, my leadership, planning, and communication background gave me a strong foundation to build on.
