We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Joe Gallo a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Joe, appreciate you joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Opening this business was a huge risk, financially and emotionally. It took so much work and money to make this all happen. I am so grateful for all my business partners and staff for helping make this dream a reality

Joe, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I moved back to Savannah Ga after leaving for almost 10 years. I missed it every day, and at the end of the pandemic I decided life is too short to not be where I felt most at home. My best friend and client Pat Portera followed behind me after I convinced them not to move to Florida. We decided that Savannah needed a custom furniture and Interior design showroom. It took forever to find the perfect space and do the construction during the tail end of the pandemic. Everything was still on backordered and took twice as long to hire craftsmen and trades. The business finally opened a little more than 2 years ago. Since them we’ve grown like we could only hope for. We’ve won numerous awards including best interior design firm in Ga and best lighting and furniture showroom in Savannah. We’ve had so many struggles in the beginning but kept on pursuing. We have gone on to hire many talented designers and interns that have helped along the way. Every day we still learn new thing sand keep expanding.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is making people happy. My job is to take a home and help the client really personalize it and make it their own. Clients really put a lot of faith in us to invite us into their homes and let us guide them through out the renovation. It’s really rewarding seeing the finished product. Most clients become friends and keep in touch after the project is well finished.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
People really need to support small businesses. I think Savannah does a great job of that. Most locals don’t want to shop at chain stores, and choose to come to us for unique pieces. We try not to ever sell the same thing to different clients. We want their homes to be unique and fitting to them.
