We were lucky to catch up with Joe Fury recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Joe, thanks for joining us today. Can you tell us about a time that your work has been misunderstood? Why do you think it happened and did any interesting insights emerge from the experience?
I’ve experienced my art being mischaracterized as a result of the melancholy nature of the subjects and heavy contrasting black and grey in my art.
These are usually observed as a sorrowful reflection on the subject when my true feeling is one of hope. Knowing the challenges and hardships make the rewards more satisfying and I want my art to share a message of hope.
Joe, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I can’t remember when my love for making art wasn’t the reason I breathe. I feel I have always been creative and it’s something I’ll do my entire life. I have an academic background with a BFA with emphasis on photography and 15+ years of professional art industry experience and gallery/festival work. Currently I have been tattooing professionally for 4 years. My bold and unique style has influences coming from my connection to illustration, graphic novels, anime/manga, and video games.
Becoming a locally renowned and award winning artist my style has refined it technique with dramatic uniqueness which will always stand out from the crowd!
Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
Simple. Anything is art if it makes you feel something.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The very fact that I am creating. Making a thing, if it be art, photographs, or tattoos, is the most rewarding expression of myself.
