Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Joe Alvarado. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Joe, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
I started taking indoor cycling classes when I was in a dark season of my life. I went through a divorce and went to the gym as an outlet. I not only lost 50 pounds and got healthy, but I also found community and support in the class and fell in love with the type of workout and the music. Today, That experience fuels what I do today when I create my cycling classes. I think about who I am helping physically and what they may be going through emotionally. If it helped me, it can anyone.
Joe, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
As mentioned before, I got into creating indoor cycling videos when I attended my first class and found community, and saw the value of health benefits.
I also grew up in the church, being the media tech person. I loved using computers, video, microphones, sound systems, and projectors to create a better experience. This knowledge created the foundation of knowing what and how to start creating videos for my YouTube Channel.
Today I create indoor cycling videos on YouTube with my catchphrase, High Energy, Smart, and Fun.
I am most proud of reaching people around the world. I have regular rides from Canada, Switzerland, and Australia.
What sets my videos apart is that I have information on my screen and people say they never get lost following a workout. They love my music and cueing.
I also have a church background and use Christian-based music that appeals to those looking for a faith-based workout.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I am still learning how to do this effectively, but consistent video uploads and improving the video quality when I learn something new have helped me reach and continue growing my audience online.
Advice for those new is to get the audio right. Most starting can use a smartphone, but the audio has to be correct. If it looks good and sounds bad, people will not want to watch it.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I would have known about a program called OBS. Open Broadcast Software. It’s free and open-source software for video recording and live streaming. Learning about this software has cut my production time in half.
