Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Joe Acosta. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Joe thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
I’d liked to say they did it wrong for me to be the right artist. Alot of hardships growing up alot of growing up fast and seeing the wickedness of the world early. Alot of hardships were brought on by my parents and I had a big chip on my shoulder growing up. Like why me why am I going threw this or why can’t I live like that. But now as a grown man I can honestly say they did it all right. Now that I understands and I am a father myself we make mistakes and sometimes our children are effected by these choices its all about being aware and being present and using those hardships as fuel to become who you always wanted to be.
Joe, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a hip hop artist doing this for over 20 plus yrs now from the opening act. To headlining and touring globally. I’ve fought threw the thickness of over saturation in our hip hop scene here in Los Angeles CA from local ls to the transplants that come here to chase or persue a dream. Ive made my niche and its been tuff and hard but I put my life into the music and I am blessed that it resonates umongst those that love it and I am able to get booked and stay releasing music that people enjoy. I started my label mijo music a few years back and have been helping other artist to cultivate thier selves in our field from helping with suggestions to full on album roll outs its been amazing in all scence of the word. Very challenging but very rewarding.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me the best thing about this is being able to pull my thoughts and organize them so they rhyme and make sence.then mathematically line those words up to a instrumental or beat this whole process is magical as you make something that was a thought into tangibility its all alchemy its like creating life .. and to be able to provide for my family off of my art and the way I put ny art together is pure magic.. even if we don’t intend on making money with our art it always feels good when your able to feed your family with it whether you wanted it that way or not. I also love performing aswell that is also a highlight to this.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal and mission is to prove not only to myself but to everyone around me who’s been along for the journey from the jump to now that anything you set your mind to can happen.. it may nit hepone whej you want it to happen but it will happen..hardwork and deciation are the recipes to succes .never giving up. And being a beacon of light where it’s needed the most.
