Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jodi Hays. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jodi, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Where I grew up (Pike County, Arkansas), those around me worked jobs that revolved around the land; the saw mill, the grocery store, the gas station by the river, the lumber yard. That kind of work ethic is something that has stayed with me. On the other hand, most of the visible leadership roles in the small community were designated for me only. The work ethic has served me to have the tenacity to overlook such massive omissions in models.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I make paintings using reclaimed materials, built in the tradition of quilting yet connected to European Painting history. I have made art for as long as I have memories. The art world has many facets, and many are beginning to understand that a scenic route (the path less taken) can lead to honing important voices. My work comes from persistence and community.

The creative habit transcends any “artistic” pursuit. Creatives are needful in any industry.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Social media presence was an opportunity for me to couch my own work and story in a kind of extended artist statement.
