We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jocelynn Tyson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Jocelynn, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. The first dollar your business earns is always special and we’d love to hear how your brand made its first dollar of revenue.

I had my first client all started in November 2020 . My mom was working with the girl and she told her about my makeup . I was looking for a client / model to progress my work . November 13,2020 is the day she came and she has a sickle cell. I enjoyed her and our conversation . I was very blessed to have her in my chair .

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

My name is Jocelynn Tyson. I was born in Enterprise, Alabama. I’m 29 years old . I am deaf with a cochlear implant . I am a makeup artist based in Daleville , Alabama . I started the makeup industry in 2016 while I was in college. Before I started makeup , I was a mascara , eyeliner , & lipgloss type of girl . I learned more of makeup experience on YouTube while I was in college . Did fell in love with makeup when I was 6 years old. Always been that as I gotten older. What I most proud of is getting better with skin and more confident and for my clients to feel beautiful inside and out. Enhancing beauty is important to feel passionate and fun especially self-love to feel beautiful . I want them to know that my work speaks for itself that I’m so passionate and serious about makeup .

Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?

My clients keeps up with me on my booking I service on glossgenius app , business page on Instagram & Facebook . When it comes to new clients, I always show my work every time I posted or recommending finding a MUA on group pages on Facebook .

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?

The best source for me the most is posting my work on Instagram and Facebook .
