Joby Jay , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
I recently released my first body of work, my Ep ‘Love Levels’. I’ve always wanted to put out a project from I started my music journey in 2019. This project was inspired by heartbreak which then prompted so much self-love and growth for me. I allowed myself to really be vulnerable with this body of work. What I had to go through for the songs I wrote to come out of me was rough, but there was definitely light at the end of the tunnel. The process of putting these songs together taught me patience and trusting the process. When the Ep was released and I started getting feedback, it was humbling to know that my fans were happy to finally get that type of vibe from me, a more sultry, soft, sexy and vulnerable side. It’s also beautiful to know I’m at the point in my career where I could release my first body of work and have it received well.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m a Jamaican reggae artist. The best way to describe the genre of music that I do is reggae fusion, so it’s Reggae with influences of Jazz, Afrobeat, R&B and Neo soul. I’ve been doing music for official 3+ years now. My music doesn’t only make you feel good, but it uplifts, empowers and provokes thought. Over the years my team and I have been stamping my name and brand in the local music industry and explaining to share my sound and vibe with the world. I want to continue to be myself and hope people will gravitate to the authenticity. I’m most proud of willingness to be wrong, make mistakes, take criticism and grow. I always want to be better so I try not to be less by my pride and ego. I think what sets me apart is my image, unique vocal texture and my quirkiness. I show up as myself every time, from an interview to a performance and that’s what people love about ‘Joby Jay’.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding pet about being an artist is when my fan express how a song I wrote helped them. That’s the aim, I’m not just doing music for the glitz and glam, for me it’s really about connecting with people and using music and a powerful tool for positivity and change.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Social media is a such a great tool for marketing, connecting and expanding… and it’s FREE! Over the years I’ve been able to build a community of people who believe in my talent and what I stand for. With social media you definitely have to be consistent and creative. You want to make sure you are keeping your audience engaged and up to date with what’s happening with you. Social can be very overwhelming at times, but if you focus on what makes you unique and push that, people will eventually gravitate to it and your community will grow.
