We were lucky to catch up with João José recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi João, thanks for joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
Since I was born, my father would always steer me to music. When I cried as a baby, my dad would play the guitar and I would calm down. When I wanted to play, my dad would put a piano near me and I would play for hours. As I grew up, my dad would teach me guitar, percussion, bass, singing… and other instruments. He sought other musicians to teach me as well. When I started going to school, I was always in something that was music related; such as marching band, orchestra, classical guitar, etc. My love and passion for music was in my blood, part of my life since birth. In High School, I already knew I wanted to pursue a career in music, which led me to look into the Audio Engineer and Music Production degree at the Atlanta Institute of Music & Media. When attending AIMM, I grew so much musically, and that fueled my passion for music creation. I started building my own music production studio, which not only produced music from start to finish, but also the video and artistic development side of things.

João, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I got into the industry, technically, since I was born. Music runs in my family and I always had a passion for it. Over the years, I have grown musically, and also in knowledge for musical arrangements, music business, music networking, music discipline, music teaching, artistic development, etc. What sets me apart from others, is that I can create an entire artistic profile for anyone from start to finish, from song creation, songwriting, musical arrangements, multi-instrument recording, vocal coaching, audio editing, mixing, mastering, artistic photography & video, royalties, music distribution, music registration, copyrights, etc… all in one professional and friendly studio, where we always seek the best possible outcome for our clients. The main things I want our potential clients, followers, and fans to know about me, is that I always pour my heart into every project, I work with extreme professionalism, with passion, and I always ask God to guide my ears, hands, and heart, to be able to make the best-sounding music project… something that will touch many hearts.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is seeing a new song like a new baby, watching it grow and evolve as the song progresses until the finished product. It is also extremely rewarding to see the public enjoy the music I create, to see them learn the lyrics and play the song in the car, house, restaurants, bars, clubs… to know people enjoy dancing the music I created and save it on their playlists… all of that is just the best feeling in the world.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
Well, I think non-creatives usually think that music is just a hobby, something you do on your free time, and not an actual career or job. On the contrary, music is a very rewarding and fruitful career. It is a difficult journey, but one that I wouldn’t change. Music involves rhythm, melodies, harmony, mathematics, feelings, poetry, deep thought, critical thinking, and so much more. Music includes many different skills, much knowledge, it makes the human brain evolve and flourish. Music heals physically and emotionally.
