We recently connected with Joanne Tang and have shared our conversation below.
Joanne, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. One of the most important things we can do as business owners is ensure that our customers feel appreciated. What’s something you’ve done or seen a business owner do to help a customer feel valued?
I had a customer who had been coming to a salon for years. She has built a strong rapport with us, sharing personal stories and becoming more than just a client. On her birthday, our team member remembers a favorite childhood memory the customer shared and surprises her with a small, personalized gift related to that memory. Nails by Yen strives for this kind of personalized attention, which creates a lasting bond and fosters loyalty. The client felt valued, remembered, and understood.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My parents used to own a hair salon in Vietnam and I’ve helped them out during my teenage years. After that, I took over the business and gained more experience. After several years of working, I learn to appreciate and enjoy my career even more. I started my career as a nail technician when I came to America in 1998 and have opened multiple shops in the Houston area.
Nails by Yen is a full-service beauty salon dedicated to consistently providing high customer satisfaction by rendering excellent service, quality products, and furnishing an enjoyable atmosphere. We also maintain a friendly, fair, and creative work environment, which respects diversity, ideas, and hard work.
We provide all kinds of nail services, facials, and wax. I’m proud that my business has been well-established for over 20 years. Most of our customers have been with us for over 20 years and we’re thankful that they’ve recommenced our business to others. Word of mouth is the best advertising so we really appreciate everyone who has supported us in the past and still do so now.
We’re also an approved vendor to sell Circle E Candles, which is well-known for the longest-burning and most delightfully fragrant candles on the market.
How did you build your audience on social media?
We work with a marketing company to help us build our online presence, from social media to Google Ads and website building. We regularly post high-quality photos of our salon’s services, such as nail art. We use social media to promote special offers, discounts, and giveaways. We encourage our clients to share their experiences by tagging our salon in their posts and leaving reviews online. We show customers that we value their feedback by responding promptly to comments and messages. Furthermore, we use social media analytics tools to track our performance and make data-driven decisions.
Any advice for managing a team?
Managing a team can be challenging, but maintaining high morale is crucial for productivity and success. Nails by Yen creates a culture of respect by treating everyone with dignity and fairness. We promote teamwork by encouraging collaboration and support among team members. In addition, we acknowledge and celebrate team’s successes by having lunch/dinner gatherings.
