We were lucky to catch up with Joanne Homestead recently and have shared our conversation below.
Joanne, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
My mission is to empower and amplify the stories of women entrepreneurs through their email marketing endeavors. When it comes to marketing, many women entrepreneurs shy away from telling their stories or hesitate to sell their offers. As a former K-5 teacher and literacy specialist, I have first-hand experience channeling the power of heart-led persuasion and storytelling to connect with my intended community. Stories bring depth and dimension to learning. Stories give context, a different perspective, an a-ha moment. Stories build relationships and trust. It’s magical to see a whole group of young minds enraptured and enthralled by storytelling, which then propels them to not only take, but own their next steps of action. Now, as an email copywriter and copy coach, I get to elevate the stories of impact-driven entrepreneurs to to connect, compel, and sell with integrity and audacious authenticity.

Joanne, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Joanne, your expert email copywriter, copy coach, and obsessed storyteller. With over 15 years of experience creating captivating and aligned messaging as a master teacher, I help soulful entrepreneurs and coaches in wellness, well-being, and mindset elevate their stories to connect, compel, and sell with integrity and audacious authenticity. I’m a momma of two little ones and love a good cup of chai to fuel my creativity and passion for storytelling marketing.
Honestly, I never thought of myself as a business-minded person, until I started my own business as a virtual assistant. But I was instantly hooked into copywriting and, specifically, email marketing. Because the skills and industry fueled my passion in storytelling and heart-led persuasion. As I wrote email newsletters for several of my clients in wellness and well-being. I remember two particular clients sharing with me the rave responses they got from their email subscribers. Both clients, separately, said, “I’ve written so many emails to my email list before and have never gotten a response back. You write one email for me, and I’ve gotten so many messages back saying how they loved the email and that they would do the thing that we prompted them to do in the email.”
From my years of experience teaching in a wide variety of school settings, I knew there was a better way to market besides manipulative tactics, creating false urgency, and pushy sales models. Just like teaching and learning in the classroom, marketing is about building relationships. And connecting with each other through storytelling is my hands-down-all-time-favorite (and ethical) way to build trust, create emotional connection, and persuade others to take action.
Besides harnessing the power storytelling marketing and sales psychology that feels good, I know how to guide potential buyers from Point A to B to LMNOP to nurture and experience the value my clients offer, so they say, “Yes, I want to work with you!”
I provide done-for-you email sequences and done-with-you email copy coaching so my clients can get their message out there to connect, compel, and soulfully sell with integrity.
What’s most important to me is that my clients release the “should’s,” “need to’s”, and “have to’s” in email marketing, and embrace what works for them, on their terms, and have the clarity and confidence to share their stories with audacious authenticity.
I’m most proud of the results I get for my clients, whether they’re looking for more engagement in their email campaigns, or wanting to consistently write to their email lists. Having been in business for 3.5 years now, I’m honored to empower, elevate, and amplify the voices of women entrepreneurs and coaches who are running businesses that shape individuals, relationships, and communities.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I like to say, “Personal growth is business growth.” In order to grow my business, I had to learn (and unlearn) so much about myself while owning and running my own business. And it’s a continual, life-long process. One major belief I had to unlearn, and continue to unlearn, is my relationship with money. I worked with a coach to uncover the many beliefs I had around money, earning money, and managing money. Over a period of 6 months, I realized how many money beliefs I had that weren’t serving me or my business, like “I’ll lose my community if I make more money.” I’m intentionally sharing this because, especially for women, I want to be part of the movement to normalize talk around money.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele, as of right now, is through a collaborative package with a current client of mine. One of my clients, Christine M. James of Chosen Minded, who I’ve worked with in the past couple of years approached me in the Fall of 2023, and proposed to me (no, not down on one knee with a ring!). She knows my high quality of work and we share similar values, such as creativity, integrity, and personal growth, and so she wanted to see if she could add my done-for-you offer into her client package. Before she could even blink, I said yes. So, we’ve been working together for half a year now with her clients, and she’s planning to evolve our collaborative package to provide even more value that’s a win-win-win for everyone. She brings her brilliance in all things program creation, I bring my superpowers in email copywriting and strategy, and our clients get implementation and support at every level of the process. Christine has inspired me to find more collaborative partners who provide services in marketing, sales, or program creation at a larger scale, and understand the value of email storytelling and sequences.
