We recently connected with Joanna Suazo and have shared our conversation below.
Joanna, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
Quite honestly, the idea for my mobile bartending business came to me after I became a mom. Having my son changed everything for me- not just my priorities, but how I looked at life and what I wanted for our future. I knew I wanted to create something that gave me both flexibility and freedom, something I could be proud of and eventually show him, “Look, this is what happens when you believe in yourself.”
I’ve always loved being around people, celebrating, and making good moments even better. Bartending had always been something I enjoyed- the creativity, the energy, the connection with people. One day, it just clicked: Why not take what I love and make it my own? That’s when the idea for a mobile bartending business really started to take shape.
At first, it was just an idea I’d talk about here and there, but then I started researching, taking notes, looking at equipment, licenses, branding – all of it. I’d stay up late after a busy day of the normal activities sketching out names, writing down goals, and figuring out how to make it happen. It definitely wasn’t easy trying to balance everything, but I was determined. Every time I felt overwhelmed, I’d remind myself why I started- for him, my son, for us…for our future.
The first time I booked an an event, I was nervous but excited. I remember showing up, setting up my little bar, and seeing people smiling, laughing, enjoying themselves- it made every bit of hard work worth it. That feeling of creating something from scratch and seeing it come to life was unreal.
Now, every time I work an event, I think back to that moment when it was just an idea in my head. What started as a dream turned into something real, and it keeps growing. My son was my motivation to start, and continues to be the reason I keep going. This business isn’t just about serving drinks- it’s about creating experiences, building connections, and above all showing my son that you can turn your dreams into reality with heart, hustle, and faith!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
When I launched my mobile bartending business, I was full of excitement and hope- until I lost my very first client. It was a crushing moment that made me question everything. But instead of giving up, I took a hard look at my pitch, tightened my booking process, and refined my service offerings. That early setback pushed me to build a stronger foundation and sharpen my professionalism. Within weeks, I booked new clients who valued the improvements I’d made. Loosing that first gig wasn’t the end- it was the beginning of my resilience.

Can you talk to us about how you funded your business?
To fund the start of Its JoJo, I dedicated myself to saving from both my full-time and part-time jobs. By carefully budgeting and setting aside a portion of my income, I steadily built up the capital needed to bring my vision to life. Every extra hour worked and every dollar saved was an investment in creating a business that reflects my passion and dedication. Through hard work, persistence, and financial discipline, I was able to turn my savings into the foundation and launch my mobile bartending business.
