We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Joanna Gerard. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Joanna below.
Joanna, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you tell us about a time that your work has been misunderstood? Why do you think it happened and did any interesting insights emerge from the experience?
I only noticed this when I started doing media appearances, traveling and being hired for live shows. Prior to that, I had my clients in Florida for years, created my products-I was kind of in my own little world.
Once you make a name for yourself and start getting a lot of attention, you become the recipient of a tremendous amount of jealousy.
I learned a lot about human behavior over the past 16 years, and I learned a lot about myself. In the entertainment industry you really need to be a people pleaser. I found that I am not a people pleaser, nor do I want to be… haha. I’m very careful about who I take on as a client nowadays. I will protect my mental and spiritual health at all costs. It’s not all about the money to me, and I have no problem turning people away if I get a bad vibe from them. I’m always working on my next creative goal, so I never really have that “Trapped in a career” feeling. It’s all about authenticity and freedom. If they do misunderstand me, it just means I am not meant to know them-but I still wish them well.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m a psychic, Astrologer, writer, entertainer, entrepreneur. I have done on air talent work and voice over work as well.
I was born with the psychic thing, and taught myself Astrology.. I have a degree in Mass Communications and created my own Astrology oracle cards a few years back.
Nowadays, I focus more on teaching Astrology and Astrology consultations. I will take a few psychic readings here and there, but I only work with my long term clients(who I have known for years)
I’m less interested in predicting and more interested in helping people create the life they want. Astrology is a great tool for creating your own path. I teach Astrology on YouTube as well. Knowledge really is power.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
What I learned and this is really important, is that I am not responsible for other peoples lives. This has been a crazy ride because I started off, 16 years ago-just wanting to help people.
As I grew, and made a name for myself, people started to get these huge entitlement issues with me-texting my personal phone at all hours, blaming me for their bad life decisions .
I learned I’m only responsible for my happiness. I learned boundaries, and I learned to block people.
Basically, I learned how to stay in my own lane.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The constant recreation of myself. I know I won’t do one thing forever. Right now I have three different careers I work on. When I get bored of one, I take a few months off( maybe longer-maybe forever) and I work on another one.
Creative people, we are risk takers. There is always something new and fun to learn-and as entrepreneurs-odds are we are eventually going to make a business out of it.
My natural psychic and intuitive ability continue to personally help me out tremendously in life. It doesn’t matter if I do that kind of work with the public or not. It helps me, as I am divinely guided in certain ways. It keeps my mind open and visualization and imaginative abilities sharp. Im grateful for that.
