Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Joanna Gerard. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Joanna thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Has your work ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized?
This is a really big one for me because I have experienced a tremendous amount of judgment in my work, or my persona. As someone who was genetically born into a family of psychics, I have been doing readings since I was four years old.
Everyone knows their are a ton of fake ones out there, and I definitely don’t fit the stereotype of a psychic. I never went around talking about “Spirit Guides” or Crystals. I don”t wear the typical “Psychic attire” or claim to be Native American or a high priestess or something… haha. I’m not “Earthy” in the respect that I like glamour and makeup, I get facials, and like to drink out of fancy glasses. I just never fit into that world.
It was just an ability I was born with.
I graduated college, and I believe in being practical, ethical and professional in business (and in life) I was raised to be well rounded and educated.
When I was being interviewed on TV in California, I think some people that didn’t know me thought I was just the typical fake. I also have received tremendous hate from people claiming to be psychic who may have not had the same success. In their chosen field.
Often people are shocked to find out that someone who works as a Psychic and Astrologer actually has college degrees, created their own product, and is a certified teacher as well.
I’m also a Voice Over Artist and On Air-talent. I spent the majority of my life teaching myself both Vedic and Western Astrology( the learning never stops when it comes to Astrology)
I built a business and I’m an Entrepreneur by nature. I think real Entrepreneurs, we always have several things going. I think the majority of us are misunderstood for that reason.

Joanna , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I was born psychic, so that one was really out of my control. I taught myself Astrology from books, not the internet, many years ago,. When I would look at the degrees of planets, rulerships, etc, I would take notes. I would do this all for free and the information I would write down would happen. I knew the technical side of Astrology, but I would get psychic flashes of things that were going to happen as well. People started hiring me, and it turned into a business. I also have a showy side and I did voiceovers in college.
I’m a certified teacher, so I like communicating and speaking in front of people.
My Bachelors is from the University of South Florida in Mass Communications. I love writing, so I created my own Astrology Oracle cards several years ago for my clients to purchase.
I’m a Communicator( life path 3 in Numerology;)
I travel to California to work quite a bit and was recently out there doing a commercial for Viejas Casino and Resort in San Diego.
I genuinely love to create. I love to create businesses, I love to write short stories, I love to be on TV and radio. I love to act. I love photography. I love it all.
It’s the act of creating that I’ am passionate about. I never want to stop creating.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
Sometimes people don’t understand how restless the creative mind is. It’s very hard for me to stay in one mental place for long, I always need to be experiencing something new career wise. I have always tended to get bored easy and I’m a huge risk taker( who else would do a live psychic show in front of over 400 people;) People have asked me, “Why are you always working on so many things at once?”
I like projects, Quick paced projects. I like to work quick, even when I do readings, I talk very quickly. It’s almost as if I bore myself if I’m too slow… haha. I have always said if I had gone into the Health Field, I would have been an ER nurse.
We need non creatives in this world. I have never balanced a check book in my life, but I sure do need people around me that do.
We all have a purpose on this planet, and our own strengths.
It’s about balance.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I think we all did with Covid. I was getting ready to go back out to California to be on TV and do a psychic show. I had just signed another contract.
Since the whole country shut down, I had to reinvent myself a bit. It was then that I reevaluated my goals and figured out I really wanted to be more creative.
It’s funny because building a business, Advertising and Promotions are all creative work, but being a Psychic and Astrologer are completely not creative.
Astrology is very mathematical and technical and if your a real psychic, you aren’t making anything up. No creativity there.
I think building that business allowed me to have the freedom to reinvent myself. It gave me the opportunity to be on TV, radio and podcasts. I met fascinating people, great people, other creative people.
One thing led to another. I can see now, I am definitely on a path.
