We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Joann Domenech a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Joann, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?

It was during my maternity leave that I thought about creating Pure Picnics. While I was at home with my baby I knew that wanted to start a business where I can make others happy, that will make me feel like I’m doing something that truly means something to someone. I genuinely have always been driven to make others happy or be able to assist in that so I started thinking what that would look like. At the time we lived in central NJ and we were in the process of moving closer to the Jersey shore and so I thought who wouldn’t love a picnic at the beach, I know I would love it, and it clicked! I wanted to start creating picnics! Surprisingly there was nothing of this sort around the Jersey shore or at least none that I found. I had no doubt that this is what I wanted to do, I knew that there were people out there that would appreciate something like this, that this would bring joy and a smile to others, I just needed to show them what a picnic at the beach really can look like because when you say picnic most think is a blanket and a picnic basket, but my idea was to create luxury picnics that would take their breath away. This idea happened during the winter time so I started planning all the details, buying all the things I would need enough to set up at least three different types of picnics to be able to showcase what they would look like. Once spring came, I took all my things to the beach, set a few picnics up, took pictures and posted it on socials and the rest in history!

Joann, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

My name is Joann, I’m a mom of two, I love the beach, coffee and make others happy.

I also love to create, I’m passionate about that. I see something and my instant thought is “I can do that!”.

I started Pure Picnics because I knew it will make others happy, which I genuinely love to do and it also provided me with the flexibility that I wanted to have once I became a mom.

When I was looking to name my picnic business, I wanted it to represent what I felt when creating this business, for the people to also know and feel the intentions behind creating these picnics and so, pureness is what came to mind, its a very pure feeling to be able to do this and create memories for people for their special day.

When I create my picnics, I do it with my heart, I make sure that I ask the questions I need to in order to create the most magical, beautiful, stunning luxurious picnics everyone deserves on the special occasion and that is what I’m most proud of.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?

Creating each picnic with lots of love, making sure to capture all the details so when the client sees it, the smiles instantly come out and then they talk about it to everyone they know, because it was that amazing that they need to let others know what they can experience if they also have a picnic set up for their occasion. This right here is how my business grew the first year, all by people recommending me.

How did you build your audience on social media?

One thing that I can say has helped my business grow an audience on social media would be doing collabs and supporting other businesses as well. I also invested in a brand shoot which helped me be more comfortable showing myself doing my picnics because normally I would just post my picnics and I wouldnt be in them.

An advice would be to be consistent and also don’t be afraid to support other business like yours, everyone is able to succeed because everyone is unique in their own way!
